  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new REDCINE-X feedback

Deanan, do CUDA cards play a role in RCX?

RV is pretty nice.

RCX is both multi threaded and multi-process because of stuff like quicktime was keeping us stuck with 32bit.
Now that the 64bit version is getting more mature, we can push the memory usage up. The cache system is fairly complex because of things it needs to balance between decoding, debayer, timeline, etc.
Tailoring the cache behind/ahead of the playhead should be possible. It's currently biased mostly forward.

RV is pretty nice, if a bit geeky (although frankly, I like that). We're adopting it for some in house utility tasks, which is the reason I'm familiar with it.

I've found that a split of about 75%/25% forwards/backwards seems to work well. My guess is that's already your current default (or something like it).

Is REDCINE-X compatible with windows Vista? I’m trying to install REDCINE-X_build_ 356E onto a laptop running windows Vista. Each time I try to install, I received a “REDCINE-X has stopped working” error message and the install program shuts down.

My two cents for a simple batch render MX footage App, a Redrushes-X please!!, Don´t doubt if the foundry, Hans Georg or someone offer it many people will jump for it.

But actually, working with Mx footage, we lost the speed and easy we enjoy with Redrushes. I and others knows that RC-X is a free app, thanks like allways Red team, but I live much worse than two years ago.

Can we please add an ability to delete R3D files to Red Cine X?

If you are worried that people might accidentally delete clips, then make some kind of redundant system asking, "Do you REALLY want to enable delete R3d files?" "Really?"

:)

All you have to do is select the file and under the gear do a "Show in Folder" This will open the file in the finder, you can then move it to the trash. Same amount of steps as what you mention below and it works like most other editing systems.

Is there a video demo of how you designed this app to work?
I do not get what you guys are going for here.

i still do not get how to color a bunch of clips quickly! Always have to make a Look Preset. I end up with 50 looks! Usually I would think one would want to color one "set up", maybe 5 takes, then move on, not needing to make a preset.

i open a clip in the viewer, color it, and the clip in the bin is still not colored? The adjustments only effect the clip in the viewer, why?

I think you should be able to
1. load a clip in the viewer
2. Color it
3. Select more clips in the bin (same setup different takes)
4. hit a button to apply the current grade to the selected clips.

These clips should then have a visual cue to let you know they have been colored. Even if I have opened them days later. The same with rendering, i should be able to see a clip and know what has been rendered even if it has been removed from a bin as it is impossible to make a new bin for each group you are coloring.

Thanks, Mark

Mark,

Currently there is no "one hit button" to do this.

First I think you are confusing the browser and the bin. Bin thumbnails will
update to reflect that a grade has been applied.

However, you can get pretty close with creating a look preset. If you don't
want to create a new look preset every time, just keep one selected and hit the
refresh button to update the selected look with the current grade (as shown in the viewer).

Remember the advantage of creating a preset is to save your look. This is advantageous if you do not have RMD saving on and you close the application, as any grades applied will not be saved automatically.

Also, copy/paste grade only works for the clip in the viewer, and selected clips on the timeline. Selected clips in a bin to not currently respect copy/paste grade.

I understand this. looking at a thumbnail in the bin, there is no way to know if it has been colored unless the color correction is drastic.
There should be a green box or underline on the clip, this would also show up when not in thumbnail view (do not know what the other view is called).

Thanks, Mark

I have downloaded redcine x 365, but why always asked to close the program when I click 2 times on my image file. Is there that would help me in this matter?

redcine-x 3D features

redcine-x 3D features

Hello all

This is my first post so please be gentle if this isn't the right place for it.

I work a lot in 3D with reds and love the 3D features in redcine-x. Extremely useful.

I have 2 queries

1. The horizontal and vertical adjustments seem to be switched off, are they coming soon?

2. I can't export 3D clips. When I go to export it appears in the queue as normal but nothing happens. I left it for 24 hours to see if it was just slow but still nothing. I have a rocket installed and all 2D exports work perfectly, just not the 3D.

Thanks for the help in advance

Joe

Hi Joe,

This is the right place, but for future questions start a new thread. I've been hoping this one will die for quite some time!

1. Yes, HIT/VIT will be coming soon.

2. Interesting. Please turn on verbose logging and send a log file to redcinex at red dot com. Also in your export preset, under the "Other" tab, do you have a 3D option chosen other than disabled?

Thanks!
David

Hi David

Thanks for the swift reply

1. Any idea on how soon?

2. My macpro is on set right now so I'll get the log file for you tomorrow and send it tomorrow evening.

Cheers
Joe

Just loaded up Cine X and I was wondering if there's a demo tutorial out there somewhere. Something on You Tube. I've stared at it, opened up clips and made changes. But I can't figure out how to save the pre-sets or apply them. So I did the obvious thing and tried to find an instruction manual. There's a bare bones one by RED. Doesn't really cut it.

. When it comes to digital software I'm somewhat of a sub-genius - so if anyone got a link for CineX for Dummies that'd be great.

in just about any digital software, almost all of the functionality can at least be found in the drop down menus. that's the place to start. rarely will you find an important function that's not there. once you've found that, it should be pretty obvious how to make adjustments of whichever function.
