I really like this idea...

I'll guess right now that the RR facilities will be stellar...

Having owned businesses in both California and Nevada, IMO California is probably the worst state in the nation for conducting business - and Nevada is one of the best states in the nation for basing a business.

McCarran Intl Airport is just a short drive from Summerlin, and there are cut-rate flights from there to just about everywhere.

My company and home were in Summerlin from 2001 to 2004. When not working I spent a lot of time hiking and climbing (with a camera of course!) in nearby Red Rock Canyon. Beautiful place...

Good move RED!

I'm wondering if the Red Ranch will act as an indie studio of sorts.

One thing is clear, when in Vegas always bet on Red!

Welcome Rhizz

Try starting a new thread in the Off Topic section with subject line something like "Newbie looking for other women Redusers to chat to"?

What is that in your avatar - a marmot? Groundhog? Obese hamster? Cute!

It's a prairie DOG.......... how appropriate :)

When I first read this it confirmed my suspicions that RED was tapping into alien technology from Area 51. I'm sure the tunnels have already been drilled. I expect to see a little green woman with big eyes and a short skirt greeting visitors at the reception desk.

Buck, not accusing you of plagiarism or anything... but are you sure you didn't, perhaps unconsciously... get this idea from watching a news story of ILLEGAL broun-skinned alien women with big smiles and wearing shorts being greeted by the Border Patrol as they exited their tunnels that run underneath the border between the U.S. and Mexico?

I'm just sayin' this could be an unconscious parallelism on your part?

Where do I apply for a job at Red?

+1

Or i'll take an unpaid internship, no joke.

This is really a good sign coming from RED- there's nothing more important than having the support system to back up the brand. The benefits RED customers get from this company never cease to grow.

he he, going big

Watch the pOlice and the taxman miss me, I'm mobile...

In addition to the lower business taxes and the myriad advantages of operating RED Digital in Nevada vs Cali, the Red Leader and his employees will save a significant amount on state personal income taxes. In Jim's tax bracket that's not just chump change.

yeah i used to live in Washington state, and I knew a very wealthy man who owned a utility company that operated in Michigan (Sole proprietorship). He moved to Washington because it doesn't have a state income tax. I bet that's also a reason Microsoft is in Washington state as well. Doesn't Jim have a place in the San Juan islands in WA? i guess if he isn't living there full time he cant claim that as his residence.

Is this the beginning of a new media empire?

Should we be writing desert oriented and Vegas ganster scripts?

Maybe. Las Vegas filmmaking can be pretty difficult depending on what you're wanting to do. Don't plan too much for Bellagio, even reps from the Nevada film office say they're very difficult to deal with and that "Ocean's Eleven" was a real pain to pull off. The strip itself is difficult to do because, depending on where you're wanting to film, part of the strip is owned by another county, so you've got to get another approval. Downtown Las Vegas, however, is where it's at apparently. Hence, why most every Las Vegas scene in a movie or TV show is in downtown Las Vegas with the Golden Nugget. Heck, I think the rep even mentioned something about aerials of the city needing to go through a process, which is why they have a bunch of their own stock footage of the city for filmmakers to use without having to go through that. I think "CSI" uses a lot of those stock clips with perhaps some of their own, I'm not sure.

But again, it all depends on what you're wanting to do. Some places may be more accommodating than others. So, if you write a script for Las Vegas, be specific and limited, not vague and grand.

I'm being thick - I don't get the joke. :umm:

EDIT: Just figured it out. I thought Rhizz was a female looking for some other supportive females on this testosterone drenched forum! At least that's how I read "finding other women members"

starting a movie studio is a great idea. If Red Ranch make one good film, that alone will give RED camera enormous publicity.
RED ranch will outlive RED camera.
RED camera is a sensation now, but it may not continue to be a big sensation if competitors start making similar cameras.
Good movies are for ever.
