  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED Pro Program...

...If it says "Pro" on the box, it is.

In December 2007, I posted "Maybe it's time to start talking about a Red Pro with higher-spec components, professional connectors, broadcast quality outputs, etc. The people who need it would pay... "

Many Red users at the time seemed to take offense to this idea but it looks like things are going in that direction, while at the same time keeping the indie users happy.

How about a set of these with no optics for those of us who just want a set to place on our mantle. =-)
Like a work of art.

Can't tell you what my wife said they looked like, but I'm gonna have to find a really good hiding place for them. (:

I got the same feeling when I saw the Enzo Ferrari for the first time. Holy crap those look amazing. I remember at NAB last year you guys were saying 5 lens set... $5k per lens, buy 4 get the 5th free.. I'm assuming that has changed with the "Pro" Program. Thanks for making me drool all over my computer!

Those look great - do they cover full-frame or S35 ?

Yes. question of the day isn't it.

EPIC FF35
36x24mm sensor has a 43.3mm image circle.
36x20mm (16x9) has a 41.4mm image circle.

R1 S35
22x13mm sensor has a 26mm image circle. (approx)
22.4x12.6mm (16x9) has a 25.7mm image circle.

Pawel did some tests at Arri (Aust) on a Red 300mm and his Zeiss Master primes. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=346908&postcount=52
Read above link for further MTF/CA results.

300mm Red prime had 48mm image circle.
75mm Master prime had 37mm image circle.
35mm Master prime had 31mm image circle.
14mm Master prime had 31mm image circle.

Dave,

i just popped a boner. :w00t:

will they cover FF35?

Oh man, drool drooly mc drool holy crap.

Dying for footage :)!!!

I'm not expecting the new primes to cover FF35, but I'm hoping. That would be a camera porn wet dream come true. :)

There's a chance the 300mm Pro does cover. It seems to have a large image circle.

Hye Jeff- According to RED website, the primes are for S35 and the FF35 lenses are a separate category in the PDF release and are t2.8 zooms and electronic, so one is led to believe that answers the question. ??

It would be very useful to those interested in investing in these lenses, to know when an 18mm might show up. You know I love what you guys are doing but regardless of how superb and sexy these are without an 18mm this set is incomplete.

Nothing guys? You teasers! How about an ETA for the yay or nay on the FF35 coverage? And an ETA on the ETA for the 18mm?

Could the silence mean that they WILL cover FF35? Or that they are offended by our Oliver Twist attitude?

How about just a second picture of them? This time showing off the front elements... something!

Jim we know you are only waking up at this time! :)

Yes to 18mm in development... no to FF35 coverage. Yes to incredible resolution (center to edge) and lack of aberrations. We hope people will put these on lens projectors and compare...

Jim

We're even making cool "pro" tools...

Screw FF35 coverage! Jim, at the prices that you've hinted we'd be fools to even consider feeling let down.

Thanks for your continued insanity... err... I mean effort and hard work. :) I am sure you are making lots of people happy at the expense of your own (oversized) pockets.

Any chance we might see some samples within the current week? "More? You want more?" :innocent:

Wait until you see the new machined accessories... Matt has outdone himself.

Jim

Wait you say...days? Hours? Minutes? Perhaps tonight is shaping up to be a revealing evening?
Peace,

-Harry
