  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW: RED FCS installer build 30

Hi all.

Thanks for the continued feedback. I'll be investigating the Color project issues Monday.

As far as seeing Red-specific fields in the Color interface: Unfortunately we can't modify the Color UI. In fact, Color won't even display our full ISO range. That's something only Apple can fix.

We're interested in (and appreciate feedback on) color and brightness variations between applications, but QuickTime Player is not a suitable application for such evaluations. In extensive tests, REDCINE-X, FCP, and Shake matched for brightness. In FCP, you will see color changes that we suspect result from lossy RGB-to-YCbCr color-space conversion. The impact of those color changes depends on the dominant colors in your shot.

In tests, QuickTime Player never matched the other applications.

Hello,

Egads. Let us hope that they are busy re-writing and will have something available this fall.

Thanks for all the hard work!

ANYONE!

So everything is looking good with color, fcp etc. but I cannot get Log And Transfer to recognize ANY RDM folders or any drives, cards, etc. It just says:

WARNING
"drive1" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.

???? Anyone have any clues? should I re-install fcps installer v20?

Thanks

Any news on a resolution to the bug in FCP Send to Color?
I have tried the installer build 30 on another system and had the same problem.
The clips only play and render the first frame. If they are imported directly from inside color they play and export correctly.
Anyone else is able to reproduce this?

FCP 7.0.2
Color 1.5.2
Mac OS X 10.6.4
RED FCS installer build 30

Did you guys get this one figured out? I am having the same issue, the RED FCP Log and Transfer plugin is MIA. All of the files are in the correct libraries, so I'm pretty sure the installation was successful.

Thanks
Matt

Matt: did you try a permissions fix? From what we can tell our plugin isn't even called yet when you get that error message. Please send Gavin a pm with your system details so we can try to figure our what's going on

on a slightly different note: since apple tweaked color to support new color science, I'm wondering if RedRocket support in Color is in the works?

It seems the SDK provides a lot more than we imagine. Now the rendering support with RR is on software like Media Composer 5, Adobe is going to support RR soon with update. So if Apple gets their shxx together, I would think it's possible.

Matt and anyone else getting the "invalid directory structure" message: Please launch Terminal (under Applications/Utilities) and execute this command:

ls -l /Library/Application\ Support/ProApps/MIO/RAD

and copy and PM me the result. Thanks!

Did some Color tests.

Did some Color tests.

Hi all.

I tried to reproduce the Color single-frame problem and so far haven't been able to. Here's what I did:

1. Imported a few M-sized reference movies from the camera into an FCP project, set Ins & Outs on them, and dragged them into a sequence.

2. Selected the sequence in the bin and said "Send to Color".

3. Played the sequence back in Color.

4. Used controls on the Red tab to make adjustments.

I also used Log & Transfer to ingest some R3Ds with native encoding (creating QuickTime wrappers) and did the same things. They all worked fine in Color and showed the Red tab.

Is there anything different between what I'm doing and what you're doing when you see the single-frame problem?

Did you try files larger than 2 GB?

Gavin,

My problem has something to do with timecode. Some how FCP has confused itself about the timecode of the clips I am trying to send to Color. The sequence is correct in FCP, but when sent to Color I only get the first frame of every clip instead of what it should be for the edit.

I can see in the XML that it is showing 00:00:00:00 instead of the correct timecode for each clip. FCP is still works.

I am trying to create new Proxies (wrappers), but REDcine X is broken. "output with clip filename to clip folder" askes for a folder to write the wrappers.

Dusty

Gavin,

So I have confirmed it is FCP loosing the timecode in proxies and that is causing the problem.

I have an old version of the project that has the correct timecode, but was cut with offline prores files. When I open a clip from that project in the viewer (clip is offline, but the timecode is correct. If I scrub to the begining of the clip, before the in and out points of the edit, the timecode of the first frame of the clip matches the R3D (17:11:05:22).

If I reconnect that clip to the _H Proxie (wrapper), the timecode of the first frame changes to 00:00:00:00.

When I send to Color, the timecode in the XML is 00:00:00:00 instead of 17:11:05:22 so Color gets confused and only shows the first frame of the clip.

I have tried making Proxies a few different ways and every time I bring them into FCP the timecode is wrong.

How can I change the timecode in my Proxies and how do I make this never happen again?

I don't know how this is happening, because it is not using the TOD code (17:11:05:22)or the edgecode (02:00:03:22). I have no idea how FCP is getting 00:00:00:00. The edit works fine in FCP with this bad timecode, but not in Color.

What are my other options?

Dusty

This is making me pull my hair out.

I opened all the clips in Red Alert and made new Proxies. Then went to FCP and made sure all the clips had the correct timecode. and they do. So I sent the sequence to Color and half the clips work now. The other half show the last frame of the R3D instead of the first frame.

This is very annoying!

How do I fix this? I have work that has to be finished!

Dusty

OK, Dustin. I have reproduced this problem, doing the following.

1. Used Log & Transfer to make ProRes transcodes of some R3Ds and cut them into a sequence.
2. Deleted the ProRes files.
3. Removed the camera-generated reference movies and regenerated them with RedCineX.
4. Reconnected the clips in FCP to the newly generated reference movies (H size).
5. Sent the sequence to Color.

The result is that I can scrub through the footage in Color, but playback shows only a single frame.

I then restored one of the clips' camera-generated reference movies (replacing the RCX-generated one), and re-sent the sequence to Color. That clip played fine, the other showed only one frame.

I'm looking into this.
