Now that my clickbait got your attention, I would like to discuss the real reason why I brought you to this poll. Many of us are still using DSCM2 cameras and they are still going strong! Considering I think there is a very large group of us that would love a last and final update for DSCM2 to resolve some small issues and provide better functionality with modern anamorphic lenses that are starting to come out.

I will pay to have the ability to use my own SSD damnit.

Right? If you factor the cost of a new red mag, vs a paid upgrade and an SSD…. We’re below the $1/GB mark.

This came up on Facebook a few weeks ago. When I got my GreatJoy Anamorphics I was bummed my Helium didn't have 1.8x, but I updated to 7.4.1 and there it was. No 1.5x as far as I can tell, but 1.8x has been there for at least a few months.helium_ana.jpg

Are you on Monstro because I believe it is the only DSCM2 camera that has 1.8x

With the Helium and Dragon being more like a 16:9 ish sensor, it seems odd there is no 1.5, 1.6, or 1.8 crops?

what about 1.65x?

Some PV lenses, Servicevision's new front Anas and at least one other (secret) player need this..

Must admit, anything PV is not required. That’s kind of their own standard.

but if the Dragon or Helium ratios worked out that way, in order to use the full sensor, then it should almost be required of RED.

any proper cinema camera should have a method of stretching their sensor to meet cinema standards, whether the lens exists or not.

maybe I miss understand you. You’re saying manufactures need to code in the ability to stretch their sensors to accommodate formats that no lens in existence creates?

That's what I thought too. I have the original Weapon Helium 8k. Before DSMC2 was consolidated.

There shouldn’t be cinema sensors that don’t fit a standardized format either. Over scan is fine, but there should be a standardized crop and stretch ratio on any cinema sensor. Particularly in the pro realm.

I think there's a gap between the fast way of anamorphic and all the other ways of anamorphic here. That's something RED could look at and potentially change how it's all done.

In regards to format and standards. RED did the right thing by going with what we now call 17:9, but otherwise known as the DCI Aspect Ratio of about 1.9:1. It's optimal in a variety of ways. The mere solo gripe I hear that isn't surrounding that concept is more height to accommodate the newer and larger format anamorphic options. That can be solve a few ways by having either a bigger sensor and/or focusing on what most people identify as anamorphic.

I have 1.8x on my Helium, can anyone else confirm or is my camera just special?
