  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

When the inventor of Red, a company that pretty much revolutionized modern filmmaking (no, Arri and everyone else jumped on), says to be working on an even bigger project there's no reason not to be excited

ROck'N'Rolla JIM ;)
we are ready for the new future :001_tt1:

I'm opting in on Twitter, hoping that covers all the bases. I'll happily follow links to other places, but hope that if content is posted elsewhere—it's also linked to on Twitter.

Good luck!

Exciting times I'm thinking, as I'm reading this while preparing my 5 year old! Epic-M for today's shoot.
Hope this new thing could give me as much pleasure as this trusty old beast has, but I doubt anything can;-)

3D Active Glasses

3D Active Glasses

Is Jim wearing a pair of active 3d glasses with a live drone feed? Will a revamped REDRAY and REDCODE be involved?

He says it's for "everyone", no just filmmakers, so guessing virtual reality, and knowing him he probably figured out a way to transmit electrical impulses to the brain to allow for sense transfers, like touch and smell.

So before Jim lets slip a few clues, I'm going to throw some guesses out there and see what happens. When people say "you have no idea" they either mean a revolutionary product like the iPhone or a revolutionary pricing model:

- Something to do with stationery (don't ask, it's the first thing that popped into my head)

- A new phone network (no more cell towers)

- A way of sucking limited amounts of energy from thin air, for charging mobile devices (this is already possible but not really developed very far)

- A way of making internal combustion engines significantly more efficient

- A cheap device which easily and quickly purifies and ionises water

- [Edit:] A rechargeable electric cell which charges within seconds

I don't think it is anything photographic. But in case it is:

- He's working with some industrial chemists to make a new type of film emulsion (but that's not for 'everybody' is it?)

- A revolutionary new kind of digital sensor: cheap, powerful, capable

'Out there':

- A type of crystal that helps you dream better

- A device which allows you to reach a more intuitive state, including astral travel

- A method of determining romantic compatibility between two persons

- Spectacles which somehow improve clarity of vision

Etc...

Its amazing just how far those with vision and drive can get - before others even realises the race has already started.

Guesses:

+) Technology that focuses image directly onto retina - giving people their own private HUDs.

+) An island converted into a creative emporium; fostering the minds of men and women to disruptively advance innovation without political agenda.

We're finally getting flying cars & jet packs!!!!

Oh and a moon base, I totally forgot the moon base.

I checked the USPTO online database and couldn't find any pending Jannard patents that give a clue.

But then I could be wrong.

If you need a hand just let me know. I make great coffee :)

I'm excited and inspired Jim. Can't wait to see what you're cooking up.

Also, links for those who need them:

Thanks for these links.

Also, this interview from Neil Smith (and his accompanying post on Jim's Facebook page) suggests a connection with Epson. I do remember Epson being mentioned as a partner when RED was considering coming to market with a projector. It would be so cool if the new "thing" is a personal projector for us all disguised as see-through glasses!!

This is already available from at least one company -- Brother, believe it or not. I was able to try it recently.

It also looks like Magic Leap may be using this approach.
