  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New pricing...

O.K. ROB! STOP THE JOKING AROUND WITH THE RED SERVER. YOU ARE JUST POSTPONING THE INEVITABLE!

you guys did read this part right:

Could you please report if the site is down to marcusl@red.com

Thanks

Marcus

the store section of it just went down for me and won't reload so I guess we're all just DDOS'ing it

All rumors of course - but I have a source telling me it will be approx. $37,500 for F55 w/RAW recorder. One thing for sure - Canon and ARRI will have to react.

I think Arri's customers are very fixed to the brand and the look. The pricing is less of an issue.

Announcing the piece meal new model right after the current gen is released is in poor taste, their entire piece meal business plan is what is wrong. Modular upgrading reusable parts is the way of the future, I think Red is on to something with this. The tech specs don't matter as much as the long term viability is my point. Sure its a great 2k camera, sure it shoots well, but the thing that has burned me is the way the other guys operate, with no damn cords matching model to model, everything fundamentally changes. its a buy throw away mentality that makes the stuff depreciate crazy fast as the new models come out. its so much harder to monetize on a camera that is entirely replaced constantly, no updates, just throw aways. that seems fundamentally wrong and i think the modularity and over kill in specs is what makes the red a more viable tool. theres wont up rez and was pushed out right as the 4k tvs hit market, that isn't fair to the people that just married an out dated camera

personally i cannot afford that piece meal bs, its a fortune relative to how this system works. its not just canon, its every company other then red and i am no longer playing those games, they can piece meal their product lines however they want, but constantly depreciating cameras replaced by other models soon after release is complete bs and all the big players have milked us for decades and i think that is why a lot of us are here. look how long the red one was out and how much support was offered AND then a trade in program? this whole depreciation discussion is tied to the price drops. but i still believe that even if they cut the reds price in half, at least they don't release new ones constantly that dont use the same parts as the older ones. because to me, that sony/cannon/arri method of business seems like wayyyy more risk of over night depreciation!

You represent everything negative about RED users. The smirking RED owner, looking down on someone with a different camera. And you wonder why there is this negativity out there? The C300 has been out almost a year. Fact. The 4k version, the C500, is not available yet and won't be for a few months. Fact. The C300 is perfect camera for some projects, those owners will make their money, sell and upgrade if they want, different philosophy. There are probably more C300's sold than EPICs to put it into terms you can understand.

And you say you have the better camera? Better for what? A documentary shoot in the middle of nowhere with no power for a few days? Sigh.
