  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Pacific Rim Trailer

just saw the movie...
the good news, the visuals are crazy. The bad news, it felt like a syfy channel movie with a bigger budget. I was excited to see Pacific Rim due to its similarity to the anime series Evangelion but this film was cheesy as hell and the story line seemed to be lacking some depth. Just my 2 cents.

For me this movie was absolutely horrible.

This isn't Hellboy or Pan's Labyrinth, with exquisite dialog and plot.

This is a monster vs giant robot visual extravaganza.

If you go into it looking forward to the visuals and majestic scope of the film, you'll love it.

Look for the depth of the visuals (rain/particles being affected by the creatures, the lighting, etc.) ILM did a great job.

It's the best Godzilla movie ever made ... plus giant robots.

Just keep your expectations in line and you'll have fun ride.

Definitely worth seeing - but I still keep hoping for Hellboy III.

I'm with the couple comments above...I saw PR last night.

I was really hoping it would be more than just a popcorn movie for 14 year old boys. Unfortunately, it totally missed the mark, imo, at anything for thinking individuals. It was all just eye candy and action. It could have so taken on some real issues/themes of the day and didn't. (How about making the neural connection between man & machine, rather than 2 people? Great theme for these modern days where we're so attached to computers. How about showing the differences in cultures and how they would react to these monsters? I know how Team America would react...but what about China, Japan, etc?)

The characters were mostly all a joke...every one of them seemed right out of Top Gun. The lead woman's character was the only one that I thought had any depth.

Anyways, it looked incredible so kudos to RED. But if going to see it, just know going in that it has a lot more for the eyes than it does for the brain.

Loved it.

Love shutting my brains off and just enjoying a nice roller coaster ride :)

WOW,
RED really changed the quality of motion and still pictures even for highest budget blockbusters.
Personally I find the story of Pacific Rim boring, but story line is not what the contribution of RED is all about.

Sit down and write awesome scripts and tell us great stories with visuals that live up to RED quality.
Spend the money you save because of the super fair prices of SCARLETs and EPICs on content development.

Concept: derivative.

Story: Crap.

Acting: Meh.

Visuals: Holy freaking shiznit!!

Cool factor: Goes to 11.

I don't know what to say here. I enjoyed the movie. I knew it was going to be a shallow crapfest of a summer blockbuster in the story department. Accepting the fact that I was OK with that as I walked through the door, the rest of it panned out rather well. Don't just switch your brain off at the door, you may want to completely remove it and only have a minimal quantity of brain stem remaining.

Just imagine how awesome it would be if there were a movie that looked and sounded this unbelievably awesome and had a story to match.... Just sayin'

del toro is a huge anime fan, lots of influences in it. I'm pretty ok with the meh story as long as it's engaging, which I thought it was. everything was right to the point, and the film really moved and paced itself well. it's a blockbuster, and it lived up to that name in my book. pretty good 3d experience as well, I'm totally gonna see it again.

They used the extra blur to smooth the FX and ease the headache factor in 3D. Not sure what exposure length / shutter angle was used for the live elements, but yes, it was a bit too smooth and video-ish for my tastes. To me it had a somewhat claustrophobic feel to it. No matter how big the cityscapes or robots or monsters, all the people still had the appearance of being shot on a sound stage with a relatively normal focal length lens. Not as bad as an Andrew Adamson Narnia film where the whole thing feels like a cramped sound stage, but yeah, had some of that going on...

It was interesting how analog comes through in the movie where digital fails.

The trailers gave me no hope for this movie. I went in thinking it was going to be one of the worst things made in recent years, a complete trainwreck. But it was the most fun I had at a summer movie in years. I was just all grins at the end and I don't even like monster movies or japanese mecha.

Thankfully all of the horrifically awful dialog is so unbelievably bad that it's hilarious and works. I can't wait to see it again, this time I'm going to see it in IMAX though.
