  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Pacific Rim Trailer

Generous with his time is an understatement. I think he must be a test subject for a government millitary project that succeded in removing sleep from our DNA. I just watched an interview with Charlie Hunnam and the man was working 19 hour days on the movie while still finding time to work on a novel.

I agree with Hunnam completely -- the team is everything. There is something to be said for the "auteur," but there is only so much that one man can do. Ultimately, the talent of the crew as a whole, and having access to capital, is pretty damn important.

Navarro is the Truth... Who knows maybe he will do another Spawn some day. Looking forward to Pacific Rim.
Makes me think of
Emmanuel Lubezki.. Childern of Men.
Both from Mexico City

Those are 2 Gentleman I truly wish I could of worked for as some point in my life.
Id do just about anything to learn from them.

They give me the hope I can make it some day.

Thanks for letting me run around with your EPIC in Long Beach at that motorcycle show, Big Lu. I still can't believe you handed it to me on the spot like that. I'm generous to a fault, but even I probably wouldn't have done that. Hahaha.

You've already "made it." Are you kidding?

Do you.

I saw this trailer when they premiered it WonderCon.... Can't wait to see this movie. One thing that is less obvious in the YouTube version is that it sounds just as brilliant as it looks. Top notch all around.

Del Toro... woot (was afraid it was going to be a baysplosions flick). Trailer looks awesome.

lol, i guess you gotta love a giant robot hitting a giant monster across the face with a cargo ship... i feel like i'm seeing some kids playing in a really expensive sandbox :)

Definitely an understatement. One of the main reasons that I'm in this business is because of him. He gave .me lots of good advice and encouragement in a moment where I needed it. Many great filmmakers coming out of Mexico, leaves some big shoes to fill for the rest of us chilangos who are trying to make it. Nonetheless I'm very proud for all of them

this totally looks like a mash-up of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Godzilla to me... can't help it.
but well - nice action-popcorn-flick I suppose :)

Now here is a full cup of awesome...

The boat would not hold and that broke disbelief for me, but how could you not love huge mecha vs alien godzilla?? Amusement park ride shit right here.

Hope it has a story.

As much as I love to say that the shots look awesome, seriously most these shots are CGed. Kudos to the effects folks.
Saying that it's the camera, is as controversial claudio's Oscar Win.(shot on Alexa Ironically)
Would love to see more cinematography. ie Winter's Bone.

I have always loved Mr. Doyle's work, and this interview only served to reify that. Hilarious, and full of bitter truth.

Irrespective of any qualitative judgment or merit, if nothing else, CG-heavy tentpole movies further highlight the RED camera system's versatility. At this stage, filmmakers are solely limited by their creativity, desire, time, and finances (Although the first factor can tremendously offset the last, without access to vast sums of capital and human resources, no one will be pulling off Pacific Rim in their basement with a small render farm).

That written -- the manner in which we conquer obstacles, and develop solutions to serve our stories is what defines uniqueness. As awesome as it is, the camera should be thought of as a pen.

RED has given us the opportunity to express ourselves using the same tools as multimillion dollar productions. That's really the key. Maybe someone will do the "low-budget" version of Pacific Rim one day -- whatever that might equate to. Ha.

Like it or not, films such as this are merely examples of what can be done. Yet, I do think it is important to acknowledge that these films have 20 minute credit crawls for a reason. Much like Doyle so eloquently states, spectacle films are designed by committee. So, with that in mind, it has always seemed a tad odd to foist so much of our attention onto one individual. That's human nature, I suppose.
