All consumer UHD displays are currently 8 bit, so it doesn't matter it's limited to 8 bit for now... I'd be curious to see if OSX Mavericks did any work to the 8 bit limit.

+1 on this. I really wish there was a decent laptop that had the profile of a Macbook Pro but with 32gb of RAM.Only 16GB RAM... FAIL.
I just noticed that the HDMI output from the new MacBook Pro allows 3840X2160@30p and 4096X2160@24p,
don't get me wrong, it's never going te replace any dedicated AJA or BMD card but it can be useful sometimes...

The new Haswell CPU offers little to no gain in performance, it is predominantly a die-shrink and it consumes less power, that is the main advantage. It has better integrated graphics (Intel Iris) vs. the old HD 4000. They're still using the same screen. Same SSD flash storage.

So if you already have the "old" top of the line retina, you're not gaining anything with an upgrade, except for the new GPU. The 750M is a nice GPU upgrade, but hardly worth swapping out an old retina MBP for a new one.
The 16GB is simply too little RAM for serious work these days, even though the system can indeed handle some hefty tasks. I have a top of the line retina from a year ago and I would have upgraded to the new one in a heartbeat had I been able to order with 32GB RAM or more.
Thunderbolt 2 is nice too, but this system will be halfway out of its life-cycle before we see any serious availability of Thunderbolt 2 peripherals. So if you don't have a retina MBP and you were thinking of buying, now is a good time. If you already have one and were hoping to upgrade, don't, wait and see what the next round brings.
I'm confused...
I read on Apple.com that the new flash storage is PCIE based and therefore much faster than the Sata based SSD storage from the previous model, up to 60% is what they claim. Or did I miss something?
I agree, this is disappointing. What is the limiting factor Jeff? Is it a technical barrier or some other reason? To me, this would be the perfect performance laptop if it was capable of supporting 32GB of RAM.Only 16GB RAM... FAIL.
