  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Mac Pros are here!

They upped the memory specs too. Speed and capacity. Four PCI Express graphics card capability. Looks like Intel's 5400 chipset (the one that actually DOES work with the new chips) is in the belly of the beast. That means there will likely be no illegal upgrade path for the older boards but what can ya do? One should be able to swap out the existing memory unless they've locked the speeds so that's definitely a plus for anyone who has a decked out MacPro at the moment.

It's not RedCine. It's the Apple drivers for NVIDIA.

Here's Rob's statement:

Older Macbook Pro's have an ATI. Mine does.

The problem is not that we need to get "on the ball" with full Mac Nvidia support. Nvidia is the better card for this sort of thing which is why it's our preferred card under Windows.

Under Mac the problem is in the drivers of the Nvidia boards. This driver is being developed by Apple (not Nvidia or us) and it's about 3 times slower when processing 4K than the ATI X1900 (Mac Pro).

Not much we can do about that. For serious work on a Mac I would advice someone to go with a 4 or 8-core Mac Pro system anyway. For these you can get the X1900 ATI card and you'll be fine.

If you must use a Macbook (Pro) that doesn't have an ATI use RED ALERT or the QuickTime codec for watching footage etc.

New 8 core Mac Pro+Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 graphics card could be ideal dream machine for SCRATCH on Boot Camp Windows XP.

Also my old 8 core Mac Pro could get Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 graphics card finally!?

The store is online now!

According to Rob, "The issue with nvidia are the Apple graphics drivers, not much we can do about that," which is why Nvidia works great with Windows XP sp2, while ATI is best with MacOS 10.4

I just configured the 3.2GHz. with ATI 2600 XT. = $4,948

I'd also like to know about the nVidia Quadro FX 5600 before I pull the trigger.

This BTO says 2-4 days shipping....

Oops, I started a thread on this in Workflow.

Shall we stick with the ATI for now and upgrade later? Or do new cards (hopefully) mean that Apple's written new drivers as well?

4.5K for the most powerful base configuration that I can improve upon. Not bad.

I'm confused, I thought this was happening at Macworld. Does this mean no new MacBook Pros?
