Hmm, it doesn't have my country under the name forum panel. Well Jimmy, it is nearly $3999us in my country, a big hike in what was already very pricey. I was wanting 4x4k for 8k table surface touch computing, I long have sourced 8k display tech. Unfortunately my potential engineer decided he might become ceo of a really large company instead.
You guys down-under get screwed, that's for sure. Everything in that region of the globe costs at least double… We ship a lot of stuff to and from Australia and the running joke around here is that it costs quite a bit more since the planes have to fly upside down to land there.
OTOH, prices here in the USA are not too bad for the new Mac Pro. They're right about what I expected, but I was hoping for $500 cheaper on the base model. I guess what really matters are the prices on configurations many of us will want. I want to see what they're going to charge for the 10 and 12 core chips and 1TB SSD storage. The base model could have done well with a lower-end Xeon CPU, but they designed this thing around the E5-2600 V2 series and there's really no wiggle room for moving up or down.
