  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Mac Pro on the way? (Really, this time...)

1. Nvidia Cuda Gone for now, or as announced, they might have other versions with Nvidia.
2. Adobe CS6 runs on OPen CL, just not as fast as CUDA (no clue, just guessing)
3. You don't really need a Red Rocket Card, if you do buy a pc or use your older Mac-Pro
4. Ram? how much can it hold? Retina imacs can do up to 96GB
5. Whats not to like about a dual 6gb vram GPU?
7. From the website specs I'm not entirely sure what I'll need and external Pcie box for. What will will you need it for?
8 the internal flash drive will in Apples word 1250MB/s. F**K that's frigging fast. How many gigs? most likely scaleable

Backing you up on this one; material is important. It may sound silly to some, but one of the reasons I love Red cameras is that they're made of metal. I pick up a Sony or a Canon and feel like it's gonna crack. One of my favorite quotes that I forget the source of and am sure I'm paraphrasing incorrectly:

"When a Red falls and hits the ground, the ground breaks." Materials matter.

Again, simple problem is: Thunderbolt 2 is MUCH too slow to make good use of high end cards like RedRocket. Old Redrockets runs at less than 1/2 speed via Thunderbolt. New card might run at 1/4 speed, if that, likely less. You cannot run a powerful GPU off thunderbolt either, for the same reason. This is much like an iMac without the free screen.


In other words: You cannot use a new Mac Pro with Red Rocket. Period. End of story.
 
it reminds me a lot of a mixture or merger of the old "lamp-iMac" base and the Cube design… :)

only fear i have now; hard to tell apart from a flower vase - I hope it's waterproof with the top-hole, otherwise I'm better off locking it away from locations where the secretary and the cleaning lady have access to ;)
