I know how much people here love to discuss this, and it seems like something may really actually be about to happen:

Earlier this month, we reported that Apple resellers were seeing dwindling numbers of MacBook Airs, and it appears that many outlets are also experiencing low supplies of Apple's Mac Pro.

According to MacTrast, the entry level quad-core 3.2GHz Mac Pro is backordered or out of stock at a number of online stores, including MacMall, B&H Photo, CDW, PowerMax, Adorama, and J&R Electronics.

I am glad I got mine a last year. I love mine and will get the new one for sure!!! I want thunderbolt!!! Only complaint for my current one have 2 SSD, 2 2 TB HARD DRIVES, 64 gigs of ram, and 2 graphics cards. But want more power!!!

I really hope they come out with a 4K desktop monitor. Displayport is totally capable of carrying the signal.

I thought apple got first dibs on the latest chips from intel, so couldn't it be sooner than Sept? Or is already taken into account when speculating Sept?

the only way it would be sooner than september is if they decide to not put the Xeon processors in it and the latest i7's. Intel hasn't finished with the Xeon's.

For Intel to announce shipping of the processors by end of Q3 they must have testing batches out already...

Some people say Intel is still working on the new Xeons, others will tell you they're ready. The fact of the matter is it's all speculation as Intel has not made any official statement on the matter. The Ivy Bridge Xeons were originally supposed to ship last October and then were postponed. Period. End of message... A lot of people were hoping that they would arrive last month or by now, making them arrive one year after the Sandy Bridge based E5-2600 series. There are lots of factors which could have instigated the delay, first and foremost the SB E5-2600 series arrived much later than intended. There have been rumors circulating that even though the IB based Xeons are compatible with the C600 series chipsets, that Intel is pushing ahead with an updated chipset offering or two so they can facilitate Thunderbolt more easily. Anyway, all speculation.

There's a good chance, if the chips are ready, that Intel would let Apple run with them and be the first. It's happened before and it may happen again if Apple has the right product to showcase the new CPUs.

All that said, I do expect Mac Pro info at WWDC. If not an actual announcement, at least a mention. I fully expect Apple to stick with the Xeon platform, at least on the high end of the pro line. I'm also expecting that when the new Mac Pro does arrive, it will be a much more streamlined and forward thinking design. Just as the Mac Pro aluminum tower was when it debuted in the form of the G5. 10 YEARS AGO! Time to move on to something new, IMO. I think Apple will have something good for us. Or here's to hoping, anyway...

They have had OEM samples of the Ivy Bridge Xeons available to select vendors for a while now. I'm pretty sure the CPUs themselves are not the hold-up. I think the real hold up has been the lackluster adoption of the E5-2600's and waiting for market supplies of the Westmere core chips to fizzle out. Not only that, but they only released the E5-2600's 13 months ago. Xeons usually enjoy about an 18 month product cycle. Well, except for Westmere... It ran about 30 months due to Sandy Bridge Xeon / Romley platform delays.

I was hanging in there for this update ( if it is an update ) but unfortunately my 4.5 year old Mac pro had other ideas and died 6 weeks ago.

Anyway now editing on a new 32G Ram I Mac as a holding pattern until the launch but I gotta say editing on the I mac with thunderbolt I now question the need for a Mac Pro.

I think Sergio's link shows where its all going ...including Mac Pro.

He is right.

Correction, that was alot of peoples reaction. not everyones. I personally am not worried in the least about the design of the new mac pro, just thrilled there is one coming, and curious to see what it is... much like i was with fcpx.
