Just hit Giz. Some of the tonemapping is pretty raunchy, but it's cool to see this development. The beamsplitter idea has been around for a while, glad to see someone is doing something with it. Obviously not in the Epic category, but it will be an interesting point of comparison.

The cam looks like a box at this point. We'll see what happens.

Looking forward to Monstro.

Everything about that video looks bad. Who wants their video to look like that?

In the ACM presentation, the mentioned being able to collect real world iradiance values for the scene. That could be very useful for VFX environment based lighting with interactive effects.

I assumed you guys were being a little mean until I watched the clips. It looks like a filmmaker trying to stylize an acid trip from a movie in the early 90's.

From the Fall last year you can buy 4K HDR enabled off-the-shelf image sensor from TowerJazz, a company in Israel and then go yourself to develop a new camera if you have enough money and interest for that sort of hard business.

In the future everyone is a camera maker yourself.

ANTWERP, Belgium and MIGDAL HAíEMEK, Israel, November 4, 2010 CMOSIS, a leading independent developer and supplier of high end CMOS image sensors for professional imaging applications,
and TowerJazz, the global specialty foundry leader, today announced CMOSIS will add a new member to its CMV CMOS image sensor family at VISION 2010: the 12-megapixel CMV12000.
The off-the-shelf image sensor is manufactured in TowerJazzís Fab- 2 in Migdal Haemek, using its advanced 0.18 μm specialty CIS process. The sensor features 5.5 x 5.5 μm pixels laid out in
a high-resolution 4096 x 3072 matrix resembling the APS-C format. CMV12000 offers high sensitivity and low noise, global shutter and a frame rate of 300 fps which provides best in-class performance.

...........

The CMOSIS technology portfolio contains crucial IP related to various advanced aspects of image sensors ñ among them high pixel counts at a high fill factor, high-speed functionality,
large bit-depth of column ADCs, high dynamic range (HDR), TDI (time-delay and integration) implementation in CMOS and novel rad-hard pixel concepts.

I can see some potential here, and it's good to see efforts out there to bring new ideas to fruition but.... after viewing that promo I don't feel so good... :nonod:

The images are very unnatural looking.

im gunna quit watching content if people start using HDR...

Replace "using" with "abusing"... HDR is a great tool that can, like other tools, be used also for evil.

It all boils down to the conversion from the HDRI (which is just an image with a high captured dynamic range) to the viewable footage. It can be done in a subtle and pleasing way, with natural looking results - or in an ugly way, like most tone mapping examples out there (including that video).

.

maybe im just getting old.. but, i just cant respect HDR.. I cant respect "dps" who rely on HDR instead of lighting properly..

1 is an art form.. the other is straight up laziness and incompetence.

sure there is benefits.. if your shooting a documentary in some deep cave somewhere..
otherwise I havent found ANY type of HDR to be a pleasing image...

could be.
put it this way.. i havent seen any example of HDR that i knew was HDR that i thought looked legit.
technology is getting better so i dont plan on feeling this way forever.

this video just made me want to throw up

and, wasnt trying to be disrespectful of anyone.
I just KNOW that one day, when readily available, people are going to be non stop using HDR, and that makes me sad for the art
