  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW GROUP BUY: MICROREMOTE WIRELESS FOLLOW FOCUS

They offer a lifetime warranty which I thought was cool

Hi Jake, our lifetime warranty covers our support gear - follow focus, mattebox, rods and clamps. Electronic equipment includes a one year warranty.

Mine arrived and is pretty damn cool. nice build quality. One item of note: While my +1 Module powers my Teradek Bolt fine, I get an OverDraw warning on the RRM Receiver. I reckon I'll be holding onto my V-Mounts.

Thats a bummer if the +1 module cannot power the receiver. I hope we can sort this out as I can't imagine the reeiver pulls too much current. Can Redrock chime in with the current draw of the reciever? Was hoping to power the reciever through the +1 module using the Redvolts to allow hot swapping of the V Lock batterys as the Redrock system forgets its settings when powered down. Its a time waster rersetting focus marks because you changed the battery.

Mine arrived yesterday, will test when i get back to NYC on 26th

Yeah, I remember when my Teradek arrived, my +1 powered it fine, though other users got no love. What up +1????

Christopher - I think Loren sent you a PM about that. Check if you haven't seen it. The microRemote draws standard 12V power.

Tom, I just did a test where I set focus marks at 20" and 10'. I pulled the power, restarted the base station, recalibrated the lens and my focus marks held. I believe the calibration takes care of that.

Andrew, Loren did contact me. With all the varied reports we've gotten from Pro I/O and +1 module owners trying to power various devices, I think this is a RED issue not a RRM issue.

Hey all,

I went down to Abel Cine today to do a quick demonstration of the run/stop cable on an EPIC. Hopefully this will tide you over until we get them shipped, which should be shortly!

In this video, how are you powering the unit? looks like there are no vmounts or modules on the back. Super curious as this is the only thing holding me back from the purchase.

Chris,

I agree that the power draw from the +1 module is a Red issue but will have to wait untill my system arrives before I know that it is an issue. Its good news that the recalibration of the lens sorts out the marks after a power down. I suppose it would only be an issue for lenses with no end stops.

My RR micro remote arrived yesterday. I started testing it with my Leica R lenses. I've noticed a serious problem. Good news, it seems to stay calibrated after power cycling. Bad news, I can only hit focus marks turning the controller in one direction. Here is what is happening: Facing the controller with the antenna facing up, if I turn the focus knob counter clockwise I hit my focus mark every time, when I turn the knob from clockwise it misses every time. This is independent of what direction the controller is set to. Which makes me think the problem is with the transmitter and not the motor. My first thought, since there is so much talk about the torque capacity of the motors, was that it might be a problem with the weight of the lens. However I get exactly the same results with the heavier focusing 35mm Summilux as with the 50mm Summilux which focuses like butter.

In other news, the receiver gets power from a 1b Lemo connector. Does anyone know of a source for a cable to get power from a steadicam sled to the receiver? I believe it's 1b 302 to 1b 302. Maybe Red Rock could make these cables?

If anyone else has tested focus marks with their units, can you let me know how it's working for you?

Thanks

Michael

Michael,

I would suggest you take up the focus mark issue with Redrock asap. Unit would be close to useless if its only accurate in one direction. If there is a production fault its best RR gets on to it before anymore ship.

I would first try to test the unit with a PL lens.
Still lenses may have quite a bit of play in the focusing helix- hence the focusing mark discrepancy depending on direction.
Seen that few times.
I might add this happens only on older, fully manual lenses.
I'm yet to see electronic auto focus lens do that....

Tom, I'll be calling RR in the a.m. Jacek - If it were the lens slipping don't you think the calibration would then remain slipped? In this case I can repeatedly hit the mark turning the remote to the mark in the counter-clockwise direction but always miss the mark turning clockwise to the mark.

Michael,

That doesn't sound right. Before you call the support team also send an email to support@redrockmicro.com. That will create a support case for you so the team can follow up and troubleshoot. We'll figure out what's going on.

Cheers
