  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW GROUP BUY: MICROREMOTE WIRELESS FOLLOW FOCUS

I've had my microRemote since last September, and you will not regret buying this system. The hand controller has a real solid build and feel to it. I also love using the Fingerwheel Controller when I'm shooting solo handheld. It works perfectly with the Red Ball & Socket Handle when using my Gunner or Clutch. As I described in an earlier thread, all that is required is to take a razor blade and trim off about 1/8" of rubber off the end of the grip. This is due to the thickness of the mounting ring. I'll be ordering the Universal Fingerwheel for other configs. My only complaint really, is that there is no power switch in the Base Station. It has to be unplugged from my D-tap when not in use, otherwise the battery will drain. On the positive side, I guess this enables the Base Station to be smaller and lighter. I guess I'll have to build an in-line switch into my D-tap cable.

Tehben,

As other users can attest, the unit feels solid. We do not use any plastic in our design. The basestation and wireless hand units are built entirely out of machined aluminum.

I was at your booth this year and last year looking at this system Lorne. Last year you guys had the Wireless system set up on the show floor but this year the rep said there was too much interference on the show floor for wireless to work consistently? I am wondering what might be consider "enough interference" to cause it to lose wireless functionality and what frequencies do these run off of? I just find it odd it worked on the show floor last year but not this year.

Frank,
Andy,

The universal fingerwheel will not be replacing the original one, as the original design is a bit lower profile and for those users who plan on just using them on our shoulderrigs, it is ideal.

Loren - Thanks for the reply. Is there an option to select which fingerwheel when ordering? I can only see the original on the site.... then again, I'm English and this new fangled interweb thingee is quite difficult! - LOL :)

Peter,

The microRemote runs on 2.4ghz, and has 16 sub-channels that can be selected. The microRemote's wireless function worked this year as well as last year, but as you pointed out there was simply too much interference where we were located. To put it in perspective though, I've never had a customer complain to me about interference issues in the real world, and I've only experienced it at the mess that is the NAB show floor.

Andy,

No problem! You would simply pick up the wireless bundle here with the proper cables, and do not select any fingerwheel controller:

And then you would select the universal fingerwheel with its cable here:

Thanks Loren - totally missed the other link - I'd only been looking in the remote section... doh!

Wait, more than double the price just to go from the fingerwheel with closed clamp vs jaw clamp?

Any chance to see an image of the backside of the base station? Trying to figure ways to mount this to my rig.

any accessories or suggestion redrock produces?

cheers!

Here's the best solution I found.. The actual base station has a 1/4-20 thread in the back for mounting. I purchased the Micromount & Micromount spud made from RedRock. The Micro mount will attach to your 15mm rods. With the Micromount, the basestaion can be removed in seconds if need be. Hope this helps!

Talking about compliance rules, anyone know if this is OK for UK usage?

Recently (last year I think) there was a lot of mumbles with sound guys as wireless frequencies changed/shifted, so wondering if this is affected in any way.

This is pretty tempting. I'd love to imagine that RED will have a REDmote Pro within the expected time frame of this delivery but, even if that happens, I never expect RED's pricing to be, shall we say, "competitive." :-) Hmmmm...

if we get more than the 50, say 100 or 150 orders, will the discount increase or is it locked in?
