  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Graphics Card

Is there a difference between the GTX 780 SC that you guys are referring to and the GTX 780 M in the latest iMac?

The only nonperformance increase I've seen is NEAT VIDEO, still only giving me 2-7FPS but I don't think its GPU accelerated.

Tom

You have to select preferences in the neat video menu upon running (It's default is CPU only). You can then enable GPU acceleration, etc...

I recently dumped my titans and replaced with 3 r9 280x 6gb in my cubix and they seem pretty great so far. Especially at $400 each. Have to be on mavericks though. I'm slightly concerned about nvidia support in Mac going forward. Maybe just being paranoid.
FYI the MSI versions I got came with a 6 to 8 pin power adapter included in the goodies bag so maybe they're good in a Mac Pro?

Paul,

which card do u use for GUI ?

Thanks.

gt650 single slot. thinking of changing to and for that too

so Resolve supports using Nvidia for GUI and AMD for image processing on MAC ?

the Windows config guide says "However devices running both NVIDIA and AMD/ATI hardware simultaneously is not supported on Windows Resolve systems."...

Paul what speed you getting transcoding R3D with your 3 x R9 280x ?

Depends. Sorry but vague question gets vague answer!
But generally, 23.98 4k 16/9 full premium, faster than realtime. But there is a point of diminishing returns with gpu if your cpu can't keep up. From what I gather, gpu handles debayer while CPU does the wavelet decompression. That's my problem as I have a Mac Pro 12 core, but only 2.4ghz. I doubt my third gpu is doing much with r3d, but may be helping with NR or whatever in resolve. CPU is my bottleneck.

Thanks, yeah vague. 4K benchmarks are good to go on though.

What power draw are each of those cards? I see they don't need additional power and just run off the PCI power? I have a HPZ800 I'm thinking of putting a few of these in, if I don't go for the new R9 295x2

So I got this card today, installed all the latest drivers but am only getting about 14fps for playback. The card is installed in Slot 1 and plugged both 6 pins in. card is recognized, but still no real time playback.

any thoughts for the non techy?

cheers.
