  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New German Primes: Price below 10.000 per set.

I have seen lenses. There will be individual lenses available for sale. The prices are not the lowest mentioned nor are they the highest. The quality is however the highest.

And then there's more stuff I can't tell you...

I meant "the quality is of the highest order." At a certain point you reach a plateau and you can't say one is better than another, just different. These lenses are of that order.

I suspect they are are compact primes - Zeiss ZF Lenses in a PL Mount with an Ultra Prime type housing @114mm - T stops not uniform across the focal lengths.

Compact Primes? Interesting name...

Oh by the way, who ever said we'd just have one kind of new lens in the Abel booth?

Uh oh, cat's out of the bag!

Come to our booth and find out!

Come to our booth and find out!

No ! I'd rather read rumors all day from home.

Seriously - for me it's also a race to who's going to deliver first.

Glad IBE has a 75mm and not an 85. The 85 - 100 ratio in the RED set is a little close to be useful.

WTF about no 18's ? that seems obvious.

I heard that from Germany is coming about four totally different cine prime sets.

IBE is just one of them.

I agree... (maybe 3 not four...)

Andrea

I could still speculate on four:

1. ISCO

2. IB-E

3. Schneider-Astro-Berlin

4. Carl Zeiss "cheap" PL rehoused still primes

Same for me. And my money seems to have RED written on it at the moment. Besides I already have the 300mm Pro from RED. Awesome lens.

Perhaps 85 to 100 is a bit too close. But I like 85 as a focal length and would want to own one either way. There should be both 65mm and 75mm offerings in the future from RED.

I guess it's just a matter of which ones are easier to make.... But you would think that a wide 16~18mm offering would be ready to go as it's high on just about everyone's list of what lenses are needed for a "complete" kit.

my guess is that ALL the cheap sets doesnt have a wide lens. (or a rehoused t3.5 still lens)

after a short period there will be one...but definitly 30%-50% more expensive then the rest of the set.

i see that T2.1 18mm lenses will raise in price in the used market up tp 6000 € per lens

hopefully i am wrong

Jeff, is it just me or it seems Red is poised to deliver the best set in terms of quality, both mechanical and optical?

From what I've read it seems they would have the best all around set and for not much more money, and the most info regarding delivery dates.

So atm I would say that if you work a lot there shouldn't be much holding you back from sticking to Red Primes... just rent a single wide UP or what have you till the 18mm is out. Unless you want to and can buy multiple sets...

:willy_nilly: I dunno... I can't keep up with all this stuff... I am just guessing Red Primes might be the better ones...

The best? That remains to be seen... I do think they will be very good optically and mechanically. The 18-85 zoom and the 300mm Pro are very good first entries into the pro lens market. It looks to me like the RED primes will provide very good quality at a great price.

Anyway we'll see what shakes loose at NAB, I think we have some good options coming from a few different places.

Don't go on current speculation for large purchases. For all I know the red primes could be the best by a long way but until I can test them thoroughly or hear results on a detailed lens test from someone with chops like Matt Uhry I would not pass judgement on who is putting out the best set

Wait and see is perfect advice Jeff.

Yes the 18-85 and 300 are quite good. the 18-85 is still no cooke and has some issues in the middle focal lengths but an excellent choice for the money and much better then the previous zoom.

By the way if some of the companies comming out with lenses are reading this please hear this "AN 18mm LENS IS A MUST FOR ANY COMPLETE PRIME SET"
