  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New firmware features request thread

1. Pre-record
2. In-camera speed ramp (hopefully with ability to trigger more than one event)
3. Power management

Better indication if you are viewing in RAW or not . (more than just a highlighted "OFF")
+1

I would like to see in which color space we are working o, but not lost on the bottom menu, something standalone, like the timecode or clip name.
And the same for custom curves.

1. Power management
2. Faster black shading
3. Phantom power
4. Ability to record sound from input 1 to channels 1 and 3, channel 3 with -12db. Same with channel 2 to channels 2 and 4.
5. Overview of recorded clips with thumbnails
6. Ability to delete last clip
7. Route iris change to the grip wheel
8. Auto-iris; a push on button changes the f-stop to a fitting level
9. Hibernation mode; pushing a button turns off all displays and puts the camera to sleep. Pushing the record button turns it back on.
10. Auto-level for sound input. (I like the approach where a sound level is lowered when it would distort, but not raised again.)
11. During boot up, a random word of wisdom from reduser is displayed. (Hey, on Scarlet it could be a "tip of the day".)
12. World peace

Sums up everything! Also just to add, 100fps in 5K 16:9 mode!

- black shading , to long..25min
- pre-recorder
- phantom pwer
- thumbnails clips in player mode .

Audio playback is critical.
Full frame 1080p SDI out is critical. (I heard that's coming soon)
Ditto on faster black shading.

Not sure why folks think power management is so important. I check the power directly on my AB batteries, and haven't had any issues yet. Maybe I'll see the need the more I use it.

With power management, I assume that people are referring to the fact that it eats power even when turned of and such. Not to do with percentage displays.

+1 to fully debayered sdi output on Epic/Scarlet

it already is...

my suggestion... faster blackshading time.

independent viewing of on board lcd and hdsdi of gamma. being able to see hdsdi in redlogfilm but stay in rg3 on the onboard lcd and evf would be great...

There are 2 features desperately needed in the firmware for 3D beamsplitter use:

I. Flip and Flop of the Monitor (not the menus):

It's far easier to mount Epic and Scarlet upside down in underslung beamsplitter rigs. This means the image will be upside-down on the monitor for the transmission side of the beamsplitter and upside-down and wrong-reading (flopped) on the reflection side. If you don't think this is a big deal - just try shooting with the monitors upside down. It's a MAJOR hinderance!

II. Master-Slave Auto-Focus:

Autofocus w/ Canon mount is GREAT and could save substantial time - BUT - the current functionally works against you when shooting through a beamsplitter. To use AF, you have to enable Single AF, half-press the REC button, disable AF, note the focus distance on the transmission camera, then manually input the focus distance on the reflection camera (on the reflection-side of the beamsplitter). This is made even more cumbersome by the laggy response on the touchscreen UI.

It would GREAT if the master camera auto-focused (only on half-push - NOT on record start) and sent the focus distance to the slave camera.

+1 for recorded clips overlay.

Not as important as power management for sure, but it's something I'd love to have.

My current workaround involves a second monitor, cling-film, sharpie and a steady hand (last one's tricky after 2 espresso's)

It would be fantastic if some basic processing to the image were possible too, like super high contrast/edge detection to allow you to line up on certain features as well as a mix value.

Button lock

Button lock

I agree with most of the (serious) suggestions, but have a minor addition: For the fat fingered, could a button lock feature be available? Something that would disable ALL buttons (except Rec/Power) unless you press and hold it for 2 secs perhaps? assignable of course, but maybe move Eject Media up to the middle unlabeled button on the back of the sidehandle, and the bottom becomes this lock? Just a thouight.

1. Power management
...
7. Route iris change to the grip wheel
...

Martin, how I have our Epic setup is on the front wheel; left closes iris, right opens it

Settings -> Setup -> Keys/Shortcuts

Key Source: Side Handle
User Key: Side Handle Rotary Front CCW
Key Action: Iris Close speed 1

Key Source: Side Handle
User Key: Side Handle Rotary Fron CW
Key Action: Iris open speed 1

Be aware that in the "User Key" menu's that it goes:

Side Handle Rotary Front CCW (front rotary handle)
Side Handle Rotary Jog CCW (rear rotary handle)
Side Handle Rotary Jog CW (Front rotary handle)
Side Handle Rotary Jog CW (rear rotary handle)

So you have to set the front (or rear) and then jump two values, and change that to affect the same jog wheel. Sorry, hope this makes sense! Confused the hell out of me the first time.
