  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW Final Cut to be Announced at NAB?

After "leaking" previews right left and centre over the month prior to NAB and then rudely shoving everyone out the way at the FCPUG function, it can hardly be a mystery what they have in store for us. I just hope Apple's arrogance really is worth it in this case. They sure have a LOT of catching up to do after letting every other NLE get further and further ahead over the last few years.

Of course, they could be just there to announce a bunch o' Thunderbolt stuff...

I do not see Apple as arrogant personally. They are just trying to make the biggest impact with the launch. Good marketing practice. Now if RED made the same statement with launching Scarlet, I would be ecstatic :)

Apple is one of the most arrogant companies on the planet and has been for many, many years. The fact that they also deliver on most of their arrogant claims makes it more acceptable arrogance, but arrogance none the less. And the fact that the Apple faithful eat it all up does make it good marketing practice, but no less arrogant.

I'm quite surprised about the move by the FCPUG to bounce the other vendors. The same folks who have provided the raffle prizes being given away year after year. The reason why paying an entry fee into the event is worthwhile.

Now, it's "thanks for the goods, now take a hike! Well, you can still stay in the vendor/demo room, if you'd like to." I can see the move more or less to get Avid out of the room. But those other vendors are direct supporters of the platform.

If it were a finished product ready to ship, they would choose a different venue. This is likely an early public preview.

Fair enough.. arrogant they are. I am surprised it bothers you so much. Yes I am an Apple faithful in as much as I love using Mac computers and their software. I love their stuff and I am not in the least bothered with what everybody else is using. Power to their elbow. I am not going to hide my love of most things Apple just because there are bitter people out there who goes 'boo haa' each time the Apple brand is mentioned.

They already kind of did that last year with Snow Leopard support. More rumors here... I think its FACT. FCP 64 bit is FINALLY done and Im SURE it will have R3D support.

In FACT... Im going out on a POSITIVE limb and guessing its part of the RED surprise and will work with EPIC footage. :)

Although it does seem likely I thought it was still a rumor at this point? Has this, in fact, been confirmed?

If FCPUG bounces other vendors then it is their decision, even if Apple requested it. Of course, it makes sense that if the usergroup, that exists because of a certain product, is asked by the company to use their meeting to announce a big upgrade there is motivation to allow the company to be the focus of that meeting.

The new FCP must be 64-bit, address 16+GB of RAM, multi-core aware, GPU aware (brand agnostic), leverage AVX instructions, overhauled QT architecture with no gamma shift, drag-and-drop native editing for all formats, no transcoding or proxies required at any stage, a new lossless codec to upgrade/replace the lossy ProRes 4444, real-time half-debayer for 5K R3Ds on latest mainstream/performance hardware, auto-save mechanism, 32-bit fp color, auto sync for multi-cam / multi-system sound, overhauled sound tools, an easy dynamic link with a much improved Color, native Blu-ray mastering (with the additional hardware, of course), support for ATI Eyefinity to split up the interface over 3 or 4 monitors in a way that radically improves productivity, and finally, stability - eradicate all crashes, or it won't be worth a second look for me. So, those are my minimum expectations if I would even consider switching back from CS5. And it better deliver, it has been far too long.

If this happens, I will literally cook a hat and eat it.

I think you are safe. At a minimum, I doubt you are ever going to see Blu-Ray hardware from Apple. Jobs as much as said so and the future is online, not hard media. I also don't think you are going to see ProRes replaced since it has been rather successful and very well received. Otherwise, that's a pretty minute and specific list; mine would be as long but only overlap a few of those items. I am sure Apple will not please everyone or fulfill everyone's wish list since that would be pretty much impossible.

It is always interesting to see how many people either love or hate Apple; not much in between. As for bumping everyone at the SuperMeet, it is put on, after all, by the Final Cut Users Group. Can you imagine an Adobe or Avid venue where Apple/Final Cut is given top billing let alone significant participation?

LAFCPUG Supermeet Page said:
Agenda (UPDATED!)
The Final Cut Pro User Group Network is excited to have a very special guest presentation at the 10th Annual Las Vegas FCPUG SuperMeet. Come to see a surprise sneak peek at something very special - you really do not want to miss this one!

The newly "updated" agenda had all of the demoing vendors listed. Now, it's what I posted above. While it's obviously not a direct confirmation, it's the only conclusion to come to.

Now, the attendees are paying Apple's way at $15 each? (Currently "Sold Out", while they find other ways to accomodate more bodies as the word is getting around Apple is most likely taking over the entire event.) I think it's rather shady to have the vendors scheduled to showcase and giveaway their products (again, the very reason most go to the Supermeet), then turn around and say "oh, nevermind."

It's not lost on me that nothing has been confirmed other than the Supermeet agenda has changed and the other scheduled demo details have been removed for the Supermeet page. I'm sure if this is indeed Apple's doing, this is more than just an FCS announcement, regardless of it's potential innovations and features. I would guess it's also a showcase for new Mac Pros sporting Thunderbolt and some other new features. Again, just guessing. :)

I meant to be funny when I started that, but you know ... whoa.

I suggest we all take a deep breath and look up the word arrogant.

arrogant |ˈarəgənt|
adjective
having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities

So, in fact arrogant is the wrong word- because Apple's actual importance or its abilities would be hard to overstate. In other words, the fact that they deliver means its by definition not arrogance.

Like it or not the company has been responsible for actually turning the most interesting technologies of our time into highly successful and usable products. They are better at that than anyone else on the planet- at least within their niches of computer and entertainment technology. They make great usability decisions with incredible regularity.

I mean, look at your laptop. Any laptop made today from any brand. See how the trackpad is at the front with a wrist rest to either side? Apple invented that. No... seriously. Before the first PowerBooks the keyboard was up front and if you needed a mouse it was external.

Oh and the touch computers that have been part of "the future" since Star Trek: The Next Generation ? Invented for the most part at MIT, and Microsoft had a good long go at that technology- almost a decade of failure. Apple steps in and suddenly its THE thing.

And the "Apple Faithful" are a myth. Is it so hard to believe that there is something of value there to Apple's millions of users? Apple is consistently atop all the customer satisfaction ratings, and they have the most repeat customers by a wide margin of any computer/electronics company.

There is something going on there.

I mean not everyone, including all the people who can afford them drive BMW or Mercedes, but those cars are worth the asking price. Some people don't buy them, but you don't see people bashing Mercedes or BMW the same way some folks bash Apple.

In the same vein, don't use Apple if you don't like their gear/software, but why so venomous?

I can confirm that guess.

I recently bought a Mac Pro 2010, so inevitably Apple started whipping together the next thing.

Its like they have a guy sitting there looking for when I buy stuff to make their move.

In all seriousness, I expect a Thunderbolt equipped Mac Pro with the new 10 core Xeon's might be announced to power all that FCS goodness we are expecting.

THAT is what I wanted to say but could not find the right words. English is my second language after all :)

I can't tell you how long i've been waiting to see an update. If its true then this will surely be one great year...

I have faith apple will stun us all, its just what they like doing and I don't mind it one bit...

and I will bet my bottom Dollar (Euro actually) that whatever they come out with, there will still be lots of folks dissatisfied.. human nature I guess

I dont doubt that one bit

Wow. I just caught my PowerMac/Mac Pro screw-up. Fixed now. ;)

Apple gave up on pro products a long time ago. They saw the $$$ in sticking an I in front of some consumer product and make billions. It's like they left 1 lonely engineer on the Final Cut build, stuck him in a broom closet and said build something cool for that low margin pro field.

disagree totally. The fact that they have made huge profits in iGoods, gives them resources to throw at whatever they like, and they have always liked the association with high level media so have desire to make the best product they can, regardless of how profitable it is - since they don't need the money.
