  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New final cut pro released today with native suport for red 4k

New features, new Features. Bet they haven't fixed half that old features, especially Gamma Issues. So glad I didn't wait for this one and went out and bought a couple of "DS's" were the simple things just work! Only thing I am excited about is Color. Providing that DPXs will work at other frame rates than 24fps.

Sorry for being a little down about the update but I have been asking for things since v1.25 to be fixed that still aren't!!

Cheers, Chris

I'm with you, Chris. But now we get cute things like "Share" and can export our professional films right to an iPod! (sarcasm)

I'm a little bummed about the entire direction of FCP the past couple of years. I'm starting to believe the rumors that they aren't that interested in it as a professional tool OR really are shopping it around. The energy sure does not seem there like it was during it's initial 5 years of development.

It's like they blew by AVID in many ways and then stopped. Now, there are things like media manager, locked application when capturing, etc. that never evolved and AVID still remains better at.

Oh well. It's still an AMAZING app and is good for the money. But AVID, Premiere and even Vegas have all caught up and Apple has seemingly been snoozing like AVID did when Apple blew by them. Funny how these things work...

What I want to know is this: We have been editing our film in 2K on FCP 6. We have all of our edit files referring to R3D files (for, more properly, the 2K proxies of those files, actually). Is there some magical command in FCP 7 that will allow us to bump up our 2K proxies to read the 4K R3D files directly???

How much additional computer power is it likely to take to deal with these massively larger files?

Stephen

Color now supports the lower priced control surfaces the Tangent Wave and the "Euphonix MC Color" but this device is not even on Euphonix's site.
Has anyone seen a preview of this product? Price?

hahaha, Apple had Stepped out little too fast on that one, I knew about it but I couldn't talk about it. I'm looking really forward to it though.

Excuse my ignorance, but under what circumstances that you want to edit in 4K ? I need reality check...

I believe it a separate product with trackballs. I suggested them to make one a year ago, but they already had it in their mind the time I spoke to them.

With more robust audio support in FCP, the MC Control would serve better I think. The programmable touch panel is really awesome. I wish they make the shuttle and transport part with better components but they are also coming out with more rugged transport control separately (or they already came out? have to check).

I knew I've seen the photo before, yes, that's it Sanjin, so we can expect the MC Color to be this kind of quality, nice. Oh forgot to mention, Euphonix people are really really nice people.

Thanks KaKu. If you have a chance to test drive one soon, please post!

Ian, yes I will. The main feature of the MC artist series is that it is based on the same ucon protocol that is used in much larger studio automated digital mixers. Connecting via ether cable, it's very respnsive and low host CPU usage. I have the MC and the other mixer here, they are very nice units. I'm really really looking forward to the MC Color.

yawn... Ordering Adobe production premium tomorrow.

Hey Dave
Just curious as to what the adobe suite will do that the new fcp/color will not do?
Just checking to see which one i should upgrade?

Hey guys there is a pic of the Euphonix MC Color, it looks really nice ! Will be available in fall 2009 but no price yet. It should be around a 1000 dollars I think

Arnaud,

Thanks! Looks really great. The protocol is so efficient so this is the one to buy.
