  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Fast Prime Set WOW

Its interesting because the font is the same as a few Contax / Carl Zeiss lenses I have. Which are simply incredible and very small.

Mimic? Which train am I trying to catch? We have been in this business for 25 years pretty much doing the same thing for 25 years.

So the word Mystery is now also off limits? :emote_headwall:

How about Lens, PL Mount or Prime ? Just post a list of words so we all know.

Phew... fan boys give me a headache.:mad5:

Michael... why not just name them Mysterium lenses? They aren't sensors for cryin' out loud. You could probably get away with that. Do the Mystery lenses work with Mysterium sensors? If so, I'd love to help you re-name them.

Anyway... they do look very interesting. Even at a higher price than RPPs they should do very well. I'd love to see a set of the new Mysterium lenses. Just let me know when and where. :-) Did I just give you a migrane?

These sound great. Now all I need is an Optimo Rouge 24-290 for half price.

Let me chime in with MY opinion...oh wait, I actually know :-)

These are not reworked lenses from some other design.

They are high performance precision mechanical devices with an excellent heritage and clever application of aspheric technology therefore not "cheap" but fairly priced IMHO.

We made them special just for Sanjin.

They have been in development for 3 years, by one/some of the most talented lens designer(s) in the world.

They are manufactured by a well regarded and well known high precision manufacturer located on the planet earth.

They are not made in Canada, Japan or other places suggested by people who are merely guessing.

They are not made by several manufacturers as has been suggested.

They will begin to deliver in summer 2010, not end not beginning, IN summer :-)

Phase 1 is 10 lenses - (18, 21, 25, 35, 40, 50, 75 and 100) with 16 and 65 soon after the first 8 deliver. Plan for Phase 2 (12, 14, 29, 135, 150)

They are compact and light weight with each lens under 4lbs same size and shape and 95mm front diameter.

Here is relative sze:

They are only available from Band Pro and will be priced below the current MP and S4 pricing and above current UltraPrime pricing.

The cover Full Aperture 35mm.

They are designed for digital cameras in that they have a VERY high MTF for 4K and beyond (resolution) and even illumination in the corners for a very flat bright field.

They are easily serviceable and adjustable.

They have integrated net ring in the rear of the mount and a 95mm thread in front for a protective filter.

The ONLY mystery at this point is the brand name and logo...that will come on February 15th and is pretty obvious if you pay even a little attention now. But I still can't actually tell you till then.

They are cool. They are hot!

Thanks Michael for your kind words,

I'm back now and very excited about what I read this morning...

Congratulations. :cheers2:

For all of you interested in to see some of my Leica lens performance on RED1 can visit this

VIMEO LINK>>>

where you can find a couple of my older quick and dirty lens tests shot with Leica lenses,

RED ONE and IMS for RED universal mount from P+S Technik.

The first Leica Noctilux 50mm M f/0.95 is there already uploaded.

Several other of my Q&D Leica lens tests will come later during a day.

Do the Mystery lenses work with Mysterium sensors? If so, I'd love to help you re-name them.

Jim, you can safely leave this in our capable hands. Let's see if we can help Michael find a good name for them :reddevil:

How 'bout "Mystical Primes"? LOL

"Hysterium Pimes" ?

OK, no good. It's too late at night for me. Anyone has any better ideas?

Michael,

What is the image circle dimension of these Mystery Primes? Do they, especially the short focal length ones, cover Epic's 30mm X 15mm sensor evenly?

Thanks.

Very exciting news for someone shopping for new lenses!
Does Full 35 coverage means Full frame 35 36X24mm?

Michael,

Just consider the fact that these lenses may be more expensive that the Cooke and the MP

Guys,

Michael Bravin already answered on those questions:

Titanium is not found in many countries...

Yes and we all know lens manufacturers only use what they can dig up in the vacant lot behind the factory, international trade being illegal and all.........

I can assure you that Leica Camera AG is not making the Mystery Primes.
You owe no apology to Dr Kaufman (at least as far as I know).

Your Images from Leica still lenses are great and your hope that these lenses would be adapted for PL is interesting, but alas this is not what we announced.

We announced digital prime lenses and cannot reveal the branding, logo or tradename until Feb 15th. http://www.bandpro.com/309/index.ph...8:mysterylenses&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=37

The Leica Camera AG announcement is YOUR announcement and I was unaware of this... are you certain?

"Optimal Prime"...?

Transforming images...

No Jim, as always, you fuel my hope :-)

Michael... I really do think that these lenses look interesting. You should be happy about this set and it looks to be another great option for EPIC shooters. But you are here on Reduser and it is a bit tacky to promote the lenses with this name on a RED site.

Jim

Jim,

Sorry if it appeared that way, mystery primes is not their name, We are just prohibited from using the tradename for 60 or so days. I was responding to all the mis information that was starting to appear, with clear data. Perhaps I got a bit ahead of all that:001_unsure:

Out of due respect and attention to decorum how about from now on I will refer to them as TLTSRNTF15 (the lenses that shall remain nameless till feb 15), or even better "Them New Primes" whenever anyone asks.

Leica Movie Lens AG :)

After a bit of detective work my guess would be K+S Optics or Lothar Kölsch, as he seems to have revolutionized the Leica Summilux lenses with aspherical elements. Who else would be able to come up with a multiple-aspherical design other than someone who was the chief designer of Leica lenses for years who left Leica and became independent, and who states on his homepage that he's looking for more lens breakthroughs? And I guess double aspherical elements plus "blank pressing" make it possible.

Unfortunately I'll have to wait till February to see if my wild guess was right :)

Nope, interesting idea, but nope nonetheless.

Adding the word Leica to another word or using it alone will not produce the manufacturers name.

Oh and spelling it backward or using an anagram won't get you there either.

Michael,

thanks for your clarification about that Leica Camera AG is not maker of these new lenses.

Then also I edited my post.

Leica Movie Lens AG :)

thanks for a tip.
