We've just received our shiny new Element Technica EVF mount with the tube mount option that allows for lateral movement of the EVF.

Only drawback seems to be that it obstructs the normal placement of the top handle. I'm sure it's workable with some custom spacers (or the ET top cheese plate for an extra $800ish)

In the interim we've removed the front of the top handle and reversed it - not ideal in terms of balance - but it's a workaround.

Another option is to bolt the tube mount on TOP of the RED top mount instead in FRONT of it. Then bolt the top handle on top of the tube mount. This still requires some kind of custom spacer for the back end of the top handle. (clear as mud)

If anyone has suggestions on how best to integrate this we'd certainly appreciate it.

Cheers,
Dan Graetz

I noticed this today, I have the bracket but my camera is out.

Is there anyway to mount the ET quickrelease upside down, or does the locking handle interfere with the camera body?

Yeah, Element makes a little piece that raises the RED top handle to work with the new EVF mount. It also raises the handle enough that you can actually get your fingers under it comfortably and it makes the top cheese plate useful with a handle mounted [since there is so much more clearance].

unfortunately it doesn't fit upside down...

universal mount is a good option. you still can't use the front of the top handle - but it means you can turn the handle back around and get better balance when carrying....

ahh - thanks Brook. i'll track one down with ET....

Same problem here. You can actually bolt the front handle down on top of the ET mount. The front handle rubber will compress and it will fit.

Of course, the problem with this is that you won't have much of a front handle to grab on to and it gets in the way of the locking knob on the ET mount. Plus it probably puts undue stress on the mount and the handle.

This sounds like the clear solution. I guess I'll call ET in the morning.

Now I don't want to pick on ET or anything, but I've written Stephen Pizzo about 10 times, asking if they're doing something like that and never got an answer back. I was just on my way to design one myself. :bye2:

I just tightened down the handle and compressed the rubber. Seems OK.

Yup. And it's a "must have" !!

That's strange...mine fits fine.

BYW- Why are you using both the Quickplate and Cradle?

But you're not using the front handle extension. I think that's what he was having the problems with.

the LCD is mounted using the Monstercine Hydra clamp

The Monstercine Clamp is great, however, if you have a heavier LCD (e.g. the 8.4" panasonic). It won't lock as well and will pivot around the rod no matter how much you tighten it (this isn't an issue with the Red LCD).

why dont they send this peace with the evf mount...would make sense for me.

I have great respect for ET, but this is a rather bad error. The risers should have been included with the EVF mount.

Much worse, in my view, is the razor-sharp edges of the locking levers, a hallmark of ET products. I'm putting plastic tubing over the locking lever on the ET baseplate, but I've not decided how to protect myself from the knife blades on the EVF mount. Seems a shame to just grind them down, but they scare the hell out of me.

On balance, I must say that ET has given me outstanding customer service and they make terrific products.

Best regards,

Leo
