New Epic X Price Prediction

When dragon is released or even before that there will be a new anouncement i think. My prediction is a "5D sized"sensor i.e 36x24mm

Hope your right. Ive been wanting a bigger sensor for a while now. That or leap forward to a 6x45 size med formatt.

Ok, so I didn´t read all the pages on this thread, but i wouldn´t be suprised if they announced RED EPICs with Dragon, ready to ship now (or very soon), at maybe 4-5 $ lower than the current Epics.

I don't think there's a need for RED to gut the sh*t out of their products all of a sudden. Try and keep your speculations realistic. Epic is 5k raw on board with a 6k 15 stop sensor on the way. They're definitely not lightweight specs.

if they can come out with a sensor that size, and actually get the shutter button to go on their grip- along with adding a some photography friendly functions in the software (like fast multi level tagging and batch processing), and Red would e tapping into a professional photographers market thats far larger than the cine market.

Hey Bjorn. Correct me if I'm wrong. Wouldn't a 5D sized 4x3 sensor also work for anamorphic?

That's what I'm guessing may be in the pipeline, if you are correct.

So we may get:

A) Dragon sensor that's at the current specs we are all expecting. A 1.2 crop, 6k slightly wider FOV than current Epic 5k (1.3 crop).

But down the road, there may also be a :

B) Dragon Anamorphic Sensor that is 4x3, and possibly big enough to be completely full frame. So ideal for both anamorphic cinema, and pro photographers that want the true versatility of full frame stills, and windowed Super 35 cinematography at the same time.

Never thought about this till now. Bjorn, you think this could be possible?

I thought the announcement was only about price.

Epic X Body 14,000
SSD + PL Mount $16,500
with Meizler $29500 - THAT is good base pricing to compete and then add 5K and REDCODE and REDCINE PRO and RED SUPPORT and BOOM!

nothing else makes sense...

I don't think RED is going to bundle Meizler with anything. It's still a niche product and overkill for most. But.... had the smaller proxy module been ready, that certainly would have be bundle worthy.

Price drop, eh, we'll see. More importantly I predict a merger with Google in early 2013, and every set of Google Goggles (glasses, whatever, half-full) will have a built-in stereo pair of Epic-Xs - wireless 5K 3D connected to the cloud with HDRx and 60fps. The porn industry will be the first to embrace this revolution, as always.

Meanwhile, RED will skip Dragon entirely in favor of Einstein-influenced 4D lightfield imaging technology. The camera itself will float on the head of a pin, and will be attached to 20lbs of perforated steel to make it look more "pro". The EVF will now be a contact lens on your eye.

That is so 1990s stuff.
