Just another thought. If people are willing to buy BT scarlets at $7,100. And everyone who traded in a Scarlet for an Epic could do so for $8,000 ($10.5k -> $17k Epic) then if RED sold those BT scarlets for $7,000....

$17k - $8k - $6k = Only 2.5k left to cover. If profit was $2k even after the price reduction they would just come out about even.

And they probably made some profit the first time around on the original scarlet. And All those scarlet - Epic customers will now want pricey SSDs to shoot 5k.

Almost all companies will take a hit on some products to get customers through the door and into their eco system. It's survival. Plus I think people are getting blindsided by the products that are only offered today. I'm pretty aure RED has not been just coasting on the Epic. They have set up a production facility to create the best high resolution cinema cameras and (enter amazing wizbang products). It doesn't end here. Instead, I would think of it as the time that Scalret/Epic started it all.

Well, the Red One also comes the features of a Pro I/O Module and Side Handle.

That's a good point though. If you take away those that leaves a price of $20,300 (25000-3750-950).

Can't forget 4.5k and 2k 120fps, two features that Scarlet owners would LOVE to have. Hopefully we are about to fix that problem with a Scarlet-->Epic upgrade path.
