  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Epic X Price Prediction

Probably a good strategy for Red would be to give credit to current Epic-X owners on accessories with the highest profit margins. Not sure what their highest profit margin accessories are but that's where they can offset their cost and still retain the loyalty of the current owners. Maybe the Redmags, and others.

That's not a bad idea. I'd like a Pro I/O at a discount rather than waiting for the +1 monitor adapter :)

Red does not HAVE to do anything. I am with Terry Verhaar, Anyone reading negativity into this really isnt paying attention or had no business buying a camera in the first place. Am I a genius for selling BOTH my EPIC X last January when I saw Scarlet killing the rental market? I look like it now... but that killed me to do.

I PAID A $10,000 PREMIUM to jump the line on EPiC-X in 2010. then Red came out with the EPIC_M... and sold 1000 cameras ahead of me. did Red screw me? Hell no.

Am I stoked about the price cut as I literally have been building my $50K cart? hell YES! Timing is everything... :)

Secondly. I hope SHawn Nelson is Guess is RIGHT !! But no way Epic X with TI PL Mount and SSD Module is under $20K. That would be awesome though and Id buy 2.

Red ONE MX rented so fast I made doubled my investment. Epic rented so slow I sold them as soon as Scarlet was announced. I bought a Scarlet and HATED it and sold that too.

I wish Scarlet would die an ignobale death. The RED ONE is by far a superior camera and value and I hope to hell Terry is right in that Scarlet NEVER gets the Dragon sensor. EPIC is and should be EPIC!

Some of these comments must make Jim want to tear his hair out!! (If he had hair.) Honestly, it's no wonder he doesn't post all that much anymore. :-(

Two thumbs up!

I have a strong feeling it's going to be, judging from Jim's words....

that's going to make it hard to sell my red one mx. I thought obsolescence was obsolete???

The Red One is 5 years old. They gave all RED One owners an upgrade path to Epic. If you passed up on the absolutely insanely awesome upgrade path to Epic then you already forfeited your right to complain.

I spent 101K for 2 EPICs and accessories recently, I certainly wish the price drop less than or exactly 6K, so I will not lose my money for the dragon update is free. If it drop more than 6K, it will be a disaster for me to explain to my investors why I bought much earlier than my project begin (early next year, I just wish to get familiar with the machine).

That price would cause a lot of problems...

Estimate about 3 to 5 k drop in price... but a 30k drop in price, i think your dreaming..

I'm not dreaming. I'm just offering my prediction based on calculations.

It's not like I don't already own an Epic M, a Scarlet, and a paid BT scarlet order.

3 to 5k drop on the brain+ssd+PL mount would be laughable. I don't think there would be a dedicated "game is changing" thread on that kind of markdown.

11,111 may be unlikely - but I think 17,500-19,000 including a dragon sensor is SUPER realistic (possibly on the high side) for an estimate.

I'm certain there are some really insane cool things in the works for us all, and it makes me sad to see people so nervous about this.

laughable??? are you kidding? Did you see any camera manufacturer dropped prices around $5K after 1 year??? 5K is so awesome for lots of people including me..so you better pray for this kind of drop.Wonder what kind of world are you living in and think 3-5K US Dollars is laughable amount of money...

I think the Epic will become Red One price realm, $17-25K. In the main thread somebody asked if they could cancel their BT Scarlet order for the newly priced Epic and Jim responded saying it would be a considerably larger investmen.

You can certainly cancel your BT Scarlet order to buy an EPIC at the new price. But expect a significantly higher investment.

I have GOT to get what some of you guys are smoking!
:D
Epic: $29,900 -
=best cinema camera per dollar per oz in the world (still)
Scarlet: $ no change (yet). Jannard was pretty specific about WHICH camera was getting priced down.

In that case Zakaree none of us should buy cameras anymore. Which is maybe fair enough. Few people owned film cameras in the day (or any equipment) but then companies like Red will no longer be able to forge ahead.

Make it around 18K and see the fun. There will be a big upheaval. It will be like firing at both Sony and Canon. RED has made its money on this. In a fist fight they are supposed to be bringing in the bazooka. Now go for the Kill. :)

My thoughts are:

Epic X, side SSD, PL mount - 24K
Scarlet, side SSD, PL mount - 9K

It will be interesting to see what/how the Dragon upgrade applies to the Scarlet.

I predict:

Scarlets full time for $7500

Epic X (with side ssd and Ti PL) for $11,111

Scarlet X to Epic X board upgrade : $4000

dragon upgrade : $6000 for everyone.

adjusted

this is all purely speculation based on the new pricing thread.

Impossible. Epic will be in the 20K range.
