  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New EPIC-M firmware build 1.6.12

Figured after 2 or so years, time for an avatar change. I do like all things red - cameras, energy drinks, redheads, Maker's....

TESTING---
....yep, there's a reason red wants you to use A/C power.
inevitablly someone will connect with a dead or near dead battery and there's a chance of the whole thing dying during upgrade.....and then you would possibly be forced to send back to RED.

Anyway, as a good guinea pig---i did it. Connected with a fully charged battery and upgrade was a success. My a/c power was left on a job and next day air'd to me....arrives sometime today, but i'm away from the delivery point.

....but makes sense. A/C inverts power to 12v and there should be no reason at all you need a/c power to invert back to 12v for the camera unless you want to ensure you have constant power (assuming your country has reliable and constant power) vs. a near dead battery. As i hear said often....companies are trying to make everything as dummy proof as possible, but the dummies continue getting better all the time.
 
We have an anamorphic shoot this weekend and next weekend where we'll be hammering on this build in a production environment.

This is only after LOTS of testing on prior builds. Testing is key.

Ive had a few instances running full batteries where the camera has said "power spike detected" and forced me to shutdown.

just sayin.....

who's to say that won't happen while running of a/c power as well......
....just sayin

....no pun meant after edit....but really can go either way.
 
Just dropped the camera off at Chater. They were very anxious to update the firmware. Does audio and playback work yet?
 
Looks like all the focus tools are non-functional in this build.
 
This is truly one of those "Epic" builds like 12, 16 and 30 that vastly improve the cameras!

I left my Epic with Oakley earlier this week, now I have to get her back and stretch out this new build!

My Epic-M Arrives tomorrow, I'll check if it has the latest build, if it doesn't I'll upgrade t right away. I'm shooting a new short film over the weekend. Question for one of you guys about audio and epic-M. Can I connect a mic with phantom power directly to the camera to have my footage will be automatically synced, does the latest build allow for that? Thanks.
