The new Canon Cine Zoom Lenses announced alongside the C300 finally have hit B&H for order.
Being that a ordered a Canon mount Scarlet I have been really waiting for them.
But to my surprise they are $44 grand!!!
im sure they are great lenses but probably not any better than the Red Zooms.
So to me just another overpriced mistake by Canon.
Seperate PL mount and Red Zooms here I come.

Canon's new business model: "Slap a Cinema EOS branding on it and overcharge way more than is acceptable." That better be a F****** amazing lens for that money, but from the specs it seems like your better off with buying a full set of every lens that Red makes.

Canon . . . what idiots . . . they act like they've sold like 70 million EF lenses over the last couple decades . . . wait, what . . . they did? Nevermind

I spoke to Mitch Gross at Abel about the new long Canon zoom... and he says it's extraordinary.

In every aspect, sharpness, CA, zoom tracking (particularly amazing), lens breathing all top notch and worthy of the price if not more! The only thing that's weird in a lens of this price is the light fall off at the end of the lens. Apparently the last 50mm looses 1/2 a stop or so of light, and i think it's just wrong for a Pro lens of this caliber. But then the Optimo 12x does the same (light fall off) very close to the long end and nobody seems to point it out as a design flaw or care much.

I'm more curious about their primes. Especially when it comes to breathing, barrel distortion, and CA.

I'm a little shocked that their aren't two more primes to flesh out that range.

Canon makes amazing glass, and I'd bet anything that they'll blow RPZ's out of the water. You always get what you pay for with glass, and these will be no exception. And until you've tested both in person, I really don't see how bashing these lenses is even appropriate.

better off with optimo

the 30-300 is lame, variable aperture..really?

I gotta say it'd be cool to have Canon EOS Cine Primes. No word on those... Didn't i hear they where coming out with two more focal lengths to add onto the three? The CP.2 are cool but I'm not totally sold on them but have the best overall score. Interested about the new Zeiss zoom (70-200mm?) that we may see at NAB 2012.

Panchros are cool but over priced for 2.8. Zeiss are nice but I wish it was 2.1 all the way down, get boned on the wides. Canon primes seem baller but I'm not sure how I feel about $6k-$7k per lens.

I think the price tag means they are serious about the cine glass, and put a bunch of R&D behind them. They must be stellar, I'm excited to rent these lenses and see for myself!...the prime especially

I hear that for now the primes will only be made in Canon mount which is lame. If Canon is serious about "cine" lenses they need to be offered in PL.

It was a mistake to announce those lenses together with a camera that was meant to be a dealbreaker, a camera affordable to everyone. Really, who did expect, even after the disappointing and overpriced c300, that they'll announce lenses in such a price-range? They might be good or even great, i'm really looking forward to the reviews and comparisons, but i did expect Canon to take a fight with RED and they simply didn't, not with the camera and not with the lenses.

The 30-300 is irresistably useful focal range. Canon certainly did their homework. It's like having one good lens that has it all in medium to long focal range. Punters will often justify the price by having just one or two lenses instead of three or four.

But, I agree, $44k leaves it out of reach of most independent productions and makes RED lenses extremely competitive.

For most other productions the cost can be justified if it is a good lens. I'd love to play with it, for sure.

I think iris ramping on a cine ZOOM lens is not acceptable. Plain and simple. Very disappointing, Canon.
