  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Bond Takes a Shot at 4K

Supposed to be that David Stump is not working for RED anymore.

Anyway the new 007 films are made by Sony Pictures and that should be the key for not using RED.

It's not about technology or quality, it's about monopoly.

David STump never worked for RED AFAIK, he did an initial test-shoot.

But this is only the confimation of the log implied rumor of RED vs Sony

No news here...

Move on.

What was that Harry Potter thing?

Gunleik

Isn't RED capable of uncompressed 4K via the data port?

Seems like David might have been taking a dig at Red's noise levels, but maybe that's based on his own experience from his early tests. Either way, an advancement for 4K is good news in terms of pushing the technology forward. Most movies are not going to have the budget of a Bond film, so Red and Dalsa are kind of aimed at different productions. 4GB/s is crazy amounts of data.

This is a stunt in the sense that it gets Dalsa some much needed Press. Look closer at the story and read between the lines. This was such an expensive and complicated shot that it stressed the capability of the latest high tech device. It had to be that complex and expensive to justify two things: to be newsworthy and to position the Dalsa camera above the capabilities of the nearest competing camera system: RED. Among the fielded 4K cameras to date, obviously the Dalsa is only really competitive in the rarefied air of the huge budget tentpole special effects extravaganza. I wonder what the day cost them in the end. It better be one hell of a shot!

In that case would probably use their own 4K cameras.

REDs sales are no problem for hdcam, hdcam sr, xdcam and xdcam ex.
The Sony 4K cinealta group probably -loves- red, as it is easily the singe camera luring most buyer of all cameray to the SRX-220.

And sony pictures, sony ce sony pe and sony he are so different and un-aligned with their strategies its beyong belief.

p.s.
any news on the uni-mount?

Gbabymogul wow!

Finally someone has spoken like a true professional. I don't post a lot in here i just read the posts because personally i don't believe in bashing other vendors. Vendors are here to make our jobs easier and dalsa does a great job at it. I have prepped several times at dalsa and their facility is outstanding. They have beautiful prep bays with kinoflow lights charts, bays, personnel, etc.
Also they have a lens technician which is really knowledgeable. They actually can project the lenses and verify them on the spot which in my opinion is priceless. But their business model is based on a rental philosophy and it is a good one. I have prepped at dalsa several times and i hope they be around for a long long time. I am not trying to hype dalsa i am just stating the facts. hope you guys have a similar experience if you ever prep at dalsa.
love the red also but more rental houses need to carry it.

long live 4k:ranting2:

who is illya???

you are assuming i work for dalsa this is exactly why i don't post anything in here. i proved my point.

done!!

Lol, what happened here? dammit i miss all the fun stuff.

Is technology the new religion? Why does Mac vs. PC, Film vs. Video, Kramer vs. Kramer, RED vs. DALSA just seem like a modern spin on holy wars? Is it that there's too many of us agnostics/atheists out here looking for a replacement or is it the other way around?

The Origin is a fantastic performer and that's not an opinion, it's a fact. I think it's great that a camera I personally own can be compared head to head with the Origin. Now, my suggestion is that if we're really going to put in the effort to bash cameras let's wage war against cell phone cameras.

I think it's great to have options, as I wouldn't want ANY tool to be the ONLY option. That's just too limiting from a creative and practical standpoint. Who wants to be the one to try and shoot a doc on the Origin or the person stuck with a HDV camera for a "Summer Blockbuster" effects driven feature film.

Shouldn't we want to be able to shoot on whatever the hell is going to make the final product shine? Who really wants a one sided politician as a DP?

Although... this makes me wonder if Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo and a young Andy Warhol had some party line number that they all called in to and got all upset arguing synthetic vs. sable brushes and wood vs. plastic handles.

The situation with Bond-22 movie where Dalsa have got a job to shoot VFX part because
the decision to go with DALSA was made by Visual Effects Designer,
Kevin Tod Haug. Kevin remarked, "The DALSA Origin was the only uncompressed,
high-resolution, low-noise camera system we could count on to do what we needed to do..."

LINK>>>

RED should again to reconsider RED ONE project and go back to uncompressed 4K recording solution in a special offer
even like an optional future RED rental special stock with RED custom made cameras with features that cannot be
put in US$17,500 consumer cams.

Also it remains unclear what was Peter Jackson objection to the RED Team about missing features that
were connected to his recent shooting of The Lovely Bones.
In the case of 4K VFX could be the same missing feature of uncompressed 4K output on the RED's present design.

Warning to the Mods: All these thoughts above are based on rumors, gossip and it is a pure speculation.

CODEX High-Resolution Media Recorder used by Dalsa on Bond-22
and it doesn't look like a refrigerator at all.

He was out of line so the Moderators dealt with him out back.

What, Jim was out of line?

Also very interesting thread, formerly started by Chris Lyon in "Footage/Field Tests" section evaporated to outer space.
After clicking on "Moved: RED Not Good Enough for James Bond" thread I got this message:

"you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Ummm ... tell me what I should think about this? :umm: :angry03:

On others forums if moderators delete some posts or whole thread they put on its place short message like:
Post from Mr. Whatever was deleteted beceause of bla bla bla ...
Then I know where I am and dont feel like I am living in paralel universe unsure if my brain has some drop-outs or not :ranting2:
