  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'd like to share some footage from a recent test shoot of the new BMPCC6K. We put it up against the original BMPCC4K and then decided to bring out the Canon C200 and RED Weapon 8K Helium to round out our RAW comparison.

Some shots i took on the drive down south to Jindabyne, NSW, Australia. Went snowboarding with a few mates so didn't take the camera out in the snow.

Shot on the new BMPCC6K - BRAW 6K Q0 ( Downscaled to 4k)
Lens: Sigma 18-35
Storage: Samsung T5 SSD 1TB

Transcoded in Davinci resolve, edited in FCPX.

Blackmagic 6K - To Exist

Am really loving the Blackmagic 6K camera so far. All of these clips were shot with the Rokinon 24mm almost always at T 2.0. I shot at 60fps at a 2.39:1 aspect ratio in Blackmagic Raw 8:1. This is one of the more compressed options, but I haven't noticed much (if any) degradation in image quality when compared to shooting 3:1. BRaw has been a dream. The 6K files play back nicely on my computer until my final step which was using Davinci's 35mm film grain tool. Once the film grain was applied there was some definite stuttering in my timeline. All of the information for shooting can be found below.

Shot in BRaw 8:1 compression.
60fps at 2.39:1 aspect ratio.
180 degree shutter.
ISO was varied from 200 to 2500.
Lens used was Rokinon 24mm at T 2.0.
Most shots were done with a Tiffen 4 stop 4x4 filter.
Graded in Resolve with Fujifilm Eterna LUT applied as a starting point.
Highlight rolloff set to zero and highlight recovery turned on.
Mostly standard contrast and saturation added. I did also apply several power windows and ended up using Davinci's Face Refinement tool to bring up shadows under her eyes. Specific color saturation boosts were also used.
35mm Reversal BW film grain added.

A daily trip to one of the most famous Balinese Hindu temples.
Another test for Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k, shooting Braw 3.1.
Lens is Nikon 16-35 F/4 VR coupled with a cheap Chinese adaptor.
The camera is mounted on DJI Ronin-S gimbal, along with an external 1 TB SanDisk SSD.

Graded in DaVInci Resolve 16
