  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K

I agree x 3. Multicam interview projects... Built in monitor... Raw 6K... Makes life a lot easier AND today.

I'm all for more multicam in general of your work my friend....just saying ;)

The more I think about it, the more I wish it was RF (or some kind of universal BMD mount)... Would've pre-ordered without question.

I agree. RF mount would have been really great for this.

Problem with RF mount is Blackmagic uses the same inefficient IR Cut in all of their cameras. You would not be able to use the Canon EF-ND mount without using some kind of IR cut anyways. Not sure the RF mount adapters affect battery life, but the Pocket 6k already advertises 15 minutes less.

Anything shorter than EF (or even native PL mount for that matter)would mean the end to UMP2. As horrible for motion capture as this form factor is the UMP2 would be killed on the price point alone...

Very aggressive/impressive price to specs ratio. I guess we'll all be able to see just how good it is (or isn't) soon enough...

Shared my thoughts as I see this as potentially the biggest value-for-money disruption/shift since the original BMCC or the A7s (4k out of hdmi)... the big ones prior being the Red one (high end) and the 5D Mk ii (entry level). I'd pick one up if I didn't have my eye on other gear... And already have the stellar Red Scarlet-w :-)

Dunno about that.

With the G2 theres internal ND, much higher dynamic range, two customisable SDI outs, full size XLR audio, higher integration time (less RS), much higher frame rate options, interchangeable and user shimable lens mount, EVF that's designed to work with it, ProRes444 option (only to HQ on the 4K/6K), orientable screen, more accurate TC clock with a dedicated TC input, ref input for multicam...that's a lot more that's different than the same...

They're totally different cameras aimed at totally different users.

Like the first camera that came out, was originally EF only, I wouldn't be surprised if enough people ask, that a PL version of the P6K shows up....

NDs are easily solvable in a few different ways once the space is available. The rest is easily offset by the price and size advantage. Nobody cares what market the manufacturer intended the cameras for. Especially in the indie segment where production is much more flexible and budget oriented. But....the market will speak...much more quietly if BMPCC6K remains EF only...

Yep, nobody has EF(-S) lenses and nobody uses EF lenses, so second hand or rental also isn't an option.
How could BMD be so stupid, all indie's and starters use PL-mount(cheapest lenses available) or RF mount (most deliverd lens mount since the nineties have a RF mount).

EF cineglass is also no existing.

Nobody with some commen sense will buy this camera, the glass optical qualitie is not important, the mount is what counts.

You are missing the point:
Of course a lot of people will buy it, just like they will buy just about anything for the right price these days. From hair growth pills to pen3s enlargement pills. All I'm saying is that BM put an intentional barrier in it in the form of EF mount to protect UMP2.
But it's their product and their decision. I am just calling them out on it. Otherwise it would mean that they are just incompetent, I don't believe this is the case based on my dealings with them....

The target audience for this camera is the (multi cam) indie/starter, (former) photographer, son/daugther who wants to make video's with mom or dad's lenses.
It's not targeted at Hollywood(they will use it by the dozens), it's a high volume camera that happens to be pretty amazing for the price and it will block sales of other budget options like Z-CAM and Kinefinity.

I have a question:
Do you think that BMPCC6K available with PL mount , E mount, RF mount, would affect the sales of UMP2? (UMP in PL mount B/C as of now UMP2 EF is dead)

I would expect a UMP G2 6K option within 60 days.

I would expect a UMP G2 6K option within 60 days.

The 4.6K dual-gain sensor is their pro sensor, so I don't see them ditching it except for another one of their own. Maybe they might use the FF 6K sony sensor, but I doubt it.

I see most avoiding answering my question haha. I w9nder why.....

Quick graded Video I made of the sample BMPCC 6k raw footage available from Blackmagic Design.

The sample footage looks kind of videoy, does anyone else see that too or is it just me?
