  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New batteries

Actually, if you look at upgrade prices, they were lower before the Weapon upgrades. Getting an upgrade trade-in like the Scarlet to Epic one cost $9500, if you put on some accessories you'll end up at around $15000, which is approx the price of the Epic to Weapon upgrade. Thing is though, you get almost the same performance out of the Weapon as the Epic Dragon. But the upgrade price is indeed higher than upgrades has been in the past, meaning... we pretty much paid for the Redvolt XL module that I need to sell off now.

Well yes I guess when you put it like that. I had always thought that a lot of the AKS were kinda weak on the upgrade, and that the Raven and SW bundles were more forward looking. Perhaps they were offloading stuff- but the XL module DSMC2 did not exist before the Weapon so some thought and effort must have gone into that. So I would not be 100% that they would abandon it that fast - but then hey I guess there are precedents. I think a new XL would be great. It would never be as minimal as the VL expander with a new V Lock but not bad.

It's happened before, gear being designed and created only to be almost DOA. Red isn't like other companies for good and bad. They can make something and revise it directly after launch. That's the price for having a company that push the boundaries all the time. Even if I sometime feels that with my limited budget I get screwed over, I rather have it like this than a company you pay a lot to only to realize that you locked yourself into a niche market within only a year.

I would not be in total shock if these batteries got about exact same spec as the new mini blue shape batteries...

like stated earlier in this thread, I wouldnt be surprised if tesla has something to do with these new batteries.

And I hope they have :)

The XLs are even less suitable, big and not very powerful.

The XLs have the best power to size/weight ratio of any battery out there. That's 100% why I got them.

Compared to the power outlet of regular v-locks to size I'd say there's a reason why v-locks are a more common battery standard.

The other advantage to V-locks is that you could use one on a belt clip as a hot swap battery solution (connected to base expander) that we are missing without the side handle.

That said I do agree that the XLs provide the best weight/power solution yet. And they also charge faster than V-mounts. This is important when you are trying to get a full charge in when on the road so you can swap before going to bed:-) But a single XL doesn't really last long enough for a good interview (I really need a solid 90 minutes to feel safe, and XLs seem to be just short of that and then shut down somewhere between 6-10%).

So switching to these little V-mounts and packing a belt clip sounds better than buying a REVOLT Expander for hot swapping.
