2879 finally made it's way to my doorstep today. It's been a long wait, but even more so since I was following the initial conversations on DVInfo.net even in the winter of 2005, and was there for the morning announcement at NAB 2006...but I waited a long time before I made a reservation.

Anyway, not much to report, except for what I think might be a unique LCD mounting rig. I've actually come to be a fan of the LCD for handheld work, but all along I've always thought the noga arm was for the birds, at least whenever you're off the dolly or sticks.

With the new Zacuto EVF mount as my inspiration, I basically made the LCD like every other flip LCD (except without the "flip" part, I guess. Advantage here being that it's easy to get a tension on the rod clamp that allows one-hand angle changing on the LCD.

I think I've built a rig that's going to work very well for handheld...

Yup yup. My best handheld experience with the LCD put it right to the left of the mattebox, flush with the front of it. It was centered in my field of vision, and I had lots of peripheral vision. It was really awesome.

My plan is to mount the zacuto bizness off the front rods for handheld work.

Yes, we've had a number of clients come into the shop to setup the Zacuto parts to their liking, and they often find themselves sticking the LCD pretty far forward.
