  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Allstar lens is available - 18-35mm T1.8 PL Lite version

We hosted an early version of this lens at our booth at NAB this year - and I will say that this is a true work of "Art"

I'm not a dealer for Allstar, but what I can tell you about Tom is that he cares about the tools with his heart - not his wallet - and that he's an Artist who believes in craftsmanship.

my Allstar 18-35 lite should be here before August 1, and hosted in Los Angeles. I will also make sure that it makes it's way to IBC (Amsterdam) in September..

I'll be also at IBC. Would be great if we could meet, maybe with some other REDusers, and compare the AllStar and the GL optics 18-35. Maybe, if at that time available, we can also include in the test the new TLS 14-24 / 24-70.

I have just received this little beauty...

This lens is superbly made and where it really shows is the focus. Despite the relatively short throw of the original Sigma, once you remap it to 720˚ on the C-Motion it is butter smooth even on the tiniest adjustments...
This lens is a perfect match for the Ronin (and other gimbals). The range (18-35mm) is pretty much what you would use 90% of the time on a gimbal and at T1.8 there is no need for primes. It really seems to be made for this purpose...

Tom - you should be proud... ;o)

When did you order yours? Just thinking about turnaround time for mine.

Is there gonna be a group buy of the Lite version?

Also, anyone in the Toronto area have one I can take a peek at?

Sorry, we won`t provide group buy for customers. First, I don`t think cine lens can be manufactured very fast, it needs accurate assembly and rectification. Our lens is only consigned to lens technicians to assemble, they can`t progress rashly.
Second, the lens was priced at reasonable price. Most of rehousing lens are overpriced because of the manufacturer pricing their products depend on the price of true cine lens, not production costs. The price of our lens is depended on the cost of manufacture.

And people do not try to ask us to send you a free lens (or discount) to trade your positive review. Every single lens is made diligently, it won`t be sent to people randomly, and I don`t want my business become too well.

Mine came in a day early. Should be testing it out when I pick up my subrental body tomorrow. Thank you very much ALLSTAR, it feels great, nice hard stops, and good weight to it.

Great idea, but TLS are Full Frame. They will not have 14-24 ready but why not to include cheap Full Frame Tokinas. They are both under $5000 and they might have 24-70 ready next year. Imagine Parfocal Full frame 24-70 Tokina around $5000.
I must say TLS are Untouchable when it comes to Rehouse quality.

Hi there

Really like your attitude and approach!

Is it possible to speak on the phone (sorry due to my language limitations it will have to be in English)

Basically some of the questions are

I want the 18-35 but don't know if I should wait for the the full cine version

I'd really love to see the macro you talked about... Timetable?

The 35mm 1.5. How long?

And the most important question is reagrding service..? I could buy every lens you do BUT I would probably need a London lens tech to be able to service?

Can I call you??

Thanks

Michael L

The EF adapter is not included - it's an optional Accessory as far as I know.
Correct, it does not come with the lens as of now.

And how much does it cost? Also it compatibility pretty consistent or does it require shimmy-shimmy shakes like GLO's??

We are making cine version 16-35 lens. But this lens is not Sigma 18-35. We choose better lens. Because Sigma might make PL version of this lens in the future. And I found lens that has better optics quality to cover FF 35, so I keep18-35 lens in Lite version be light and lower price, for handheld and steadicam or gimbals.
Last week I had a project using steadicam with Allstar 18-35 lens. (password: 111 )

PL to EF adapter is an independant product for all of Allstar lenses. It is made of stainless steel, has high accuracy and is more stable.

Many people ask me about EF to PL adapter, here is some picture:
It has electric chip, so the focus lamp functions normal.

Does anyone know how well this matches to the Schneider Xenon's? Also, will this cover 6k FF?
