hi all

i am about to shoot a feature in about 3 week

we shot with red one and 2 red HDD

the problem is, we shoot at remote location and i can't send the red HDD every day to the post-house.

so i need to figure away to backup the data on hard disk after every shooting

day on location

we have powerful laptop with 320gig hard disk and + 1 tera external HDD

what do i need to make it a transfer station?

do i need one of the red software?
do i need NLE?
or is it just a copy/paste thing

thank

thanks

i have 2 RED HDD but will be far for 14 days

can i use red alert
to do it?

what if i need to copy for red hdd to the external hard disk ?
is it the same?

I'd get the R3D Data Manager- that's a lot more reliable than just copy paste in the finder.

why dont you hire a DIT or a person who is familiar with Red??? So you can concentrate on your job as DOP.

thanks all

it's PC not mac ( i so it's on pre order)
i have a AC and he owned the camera and bring it for free

it's a micro micro budget

so no DIT for me:)

can any one comment on red alert?

thanks

I would suggest you have AT LEAST 2 backup copies of the files, preferably 3 copies.

Do you have any idea how much footage you will be shooting during 14 days? Maybe 500Gb to 750Gb ???

In which case get yourself 3 x 1Tb external drives.

I found that just copying the folders and files using Windows worked fine.

DIT is not an luxury. Since any film cant be released without an Dop or Director and the same way for DIT. Its not just copy and paste the data and its lot more.

As I currently working on 5 feature films in India and after 200 days of shooting schedule, my suggestion is to go with DIT and Data Wrangler. After all its your master final content and you cant replace Lab in Film and same goes for digital.
