I'm a DP and not a post guy yet I'm finding myself trying to sell the workflow, or at least explain it and I don't have the necessary info. I know Ian Bloom has Red Trip and there is Red Line also, but I was wondering if there are any planned workshops on these subjects in the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles area. I'm talking specific workflow options: XML, EDL, batch rendering and media management. I would be very interested in something like this and willing to pay a fair amount to learn. Anyone know of anything?

I've tried following some of the threads on this in the forum, but I don't have the base post knowledge to follow the industry shorthand lingo or to fill in the missing blanks.

They have 2x 10class RED courses. They own camera #22x. The cost is very reasonable IMHO.

The biggest problem with any course on these things at the moment is that the goal posts are moving pretty frequently.

It's difficult to teach things when there isn't really anything certain to teach just yet.

I'd say as things firm up a lot more, there will be many more options for training.

www.fxphd.com update every week and incorporate the very latest in the evolving workflow they also have a forum and lots of the bright people here will also be found there. you also have direct access to the instructors basically 24/7 where any and all types of questions are fielded with a minimum of mumbo jumbo.

Also there are a couple of people here on Reduser who do consultation highly qualified people pm them about that everyone here is passionate about this project so don`t panic help is there if you really want it.

there was a group in LA area that was going to offer classes on Red workflow .. the name was something like RPM post ?? they are hooked up with another group that offers 4k DI services ...

i'm kind of stopped in my post tracks at this time ... friend loaned his 24" iMac so i've been able to look at images - not having any success getting images out of Redcine to take over to PC ... Redcine doesn't work on any of my PC's ... i just got word he needs his Mac back in April so my viewing days are numbered.

there's going to be some kind of workflow get together at NAB by some redusers ( tuesday 5-8pm ... you can find some info under Redparty NAB under off topic)

RED Workflow - DI-flex and 'The Red Canvas'

RED Workflow - DI-flex and 'The Red Canvas'

Hi Donatello,

I believe you attended the RED Collaborative Training Day we ran here last November with our sister company, RPMpost .... we had three RED ONE cameras upstairs in the large 'gym' room and Ted from RED and Aaron, our colorist, talked attendees through the RED workflow in our DI theater downstairs.

As everyone knows, the RED workflow best-practice keeps changing and improving all the time ... which is why we've developed the DI-flex workflow approach here at Hollywood-DI. DI-flex incorporates the power of RED RAW with the functionality of Final Cut Studio and the 4k strength of SCRATCH. We're working closely with RED, Apple and Assimilate to continue to improve and enhance DI-flex as more features become enabled in the RED ONE firmware and Apple and Assimilate update their software ... more news after NAB.

We're in the middle of grading and finishing a 95 minute Mixed Martial Arts movie called 'The Red Canvas'. It was shot on two RED ONE cameras last fall - here's a short write up of the DI-flex approach we developed for 'The Red Canvas':

Here's some BTS shots of the two REDs in action on the set of 'The Red Canvas' with DP, Aaron Platt setting up the cameras:

If people are interested in attending another RED Workflow Training session here in West Hollywood, let me know ... if there's sufficient demand we'll organize something for just after NAB. We might have to charge a small amount to cover costs.
