REDtouch 5.0 went down recently. Used a SmallHD DP6.

Side handle wouldn't allow me to use dial to switch settings. I plugged in the REDtouch although the screen wasn't working properly, then side handle allowed me to navigate.

Is there a way to navigate the menu on a monitor such as the SmallHD DP6 and others?

I canceled two jobs because of this.

What wont the DSMC not allow you to do and do you have a REDMOTE?

No redmote. When you say dsmc you mean the side handle? Side handle will not allow me to switch around settings I.e. 4k to 5k, compressiom ratios, iso, or anything. Can't access menu. Nothing but the image of what I'm shooting shows in the monitor

I navigate with the DSMC Side Handle all the time. Like almost everyday. The "silver" button allows you to switch between menus and "back" out of a menu, the center "enter" button allows you to select a setting or item, using the left/right/up/down keys allows you to navigate, and also pressing up on certain menus allows you to go deeper into their sub menu.

Additionally, out of the box the 1,2,3, and 4 keys are mapped to quickly select certain items such as shutter speed and ISO.

I can't remember if RED implemented in the current firmware or not, the ability to invoke the screen menus on the HDMI/SDI or not. I do know that RED support can send you a force upgrade with the Menus on for you.

You have always been able to put menus on any monitor output (LCD, HDMI, HDSDI, etc). The problem most people have is that without a working control surface you can't easily set that up.

As Bob mentioned, we have provided a few "Force Preset" files that will set the menu mode to either the HDMI or HDSDI. They can be downloaded here (https://www.red.com/downloads). They are part of the "DSMC Resources" download.

You guys rock. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to help! I canceled today and tomorrow's job but Fridays job is renting a monitor. Ill report back then.

No luck with first monitor. Monitor is 720p. Created "force_preset" folder and copied the 720p hdmi force upgrade. No image on monitor just read "no signal" File deleted itself as its suppose to. Giving it a second run.

*works on my TV so I think I have confirmed with myself I now have 2 busted monitors.

**on set, we rented a monitor, force_preset folder worked like a charm!

Red HDMI does not drive a lot of small cheap LCD's, just so you know.
You should use one that is known to be compatible.

Thats good to know. Any list for compatibility? Im getting my REDtouch back Wed/Thurs. In the market for a second on board monitor and hoping to pick one up before the 19th.

There is no official list. RED monitoring is not interlaced and send out progressive signals. Most cheap HDMI field monitors are looking for a 60i signal. Best to contact the manufacturer if the monitors an handle 24p.

Monitor viewing

You will need to navigate and switch from red monitor viewing to HDMI viewing- I am considering your 3rd party monitor has a HDMI connection-You can do this with a DSMC side handle or a Redmote

Hi Kyle,

I use my DP 6 exclusively through HDMI. DP6 works flawlessly with my Scarlet. I do not have a side handle but use my redmote to navigate through the menus. After a force reset you would need to change the output signal through HDMI (brain) to 'menus'. by default the camera will be set to 'clean'. rent a redmote and you should be all gravy.

Any body have recommendations for a 2nd on board monitor to the REDtouch? I'm looking at the SmallHD AC 7
