Here is a photo of the Red One camera, hanging underneath a tracker about 1250 feet from the pad shooting last Monday's launch. Cool Stuff :)

Good stuff...nowdays you just never know where a RED camera is going to pop up - or in this case down

Cool...

Very cool. I'm a total space buff. I think I shot the first Redone Space shuttle launch footage with #206 in early 2008. STS122 - I use this still from it for my desktop.

1250 feet is very close (Well within the blast radius if something goes wrong). Press site (where this was taken with a 300mm) is usually the closest you can get and is about three miles. If you figure the shuttle is about 200 feet high the exhaust cloud is longer than 1250 feet.

Great!

And it could be a live preview watch and shooting the latest Shuttle launch with R1.

They should have it IN the shuttle.

It would be SOOO much easier to do R1 handheld in Zero Gravity!

Wow finally RED at NASA.
But we want sharp 4K footage footage from space!
Unfortunately they got only around five more launches till STS extinct

Does NASA use it for monitoring foam debris during launch in 4K resolution (120fps) or just for a beauty shot?
Which lens?
