  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NASA + EPIC HDRx

Now lets put the Epic on a rocket. That would be freaking cool. The Carbon Dragon may be light enough for high powered rocketry.

This is awesome. Thanks for posting, Jared.

For those with an interest in both cinematography and rockets, NASA has a history of using HDR (and HFR) filming to observe & review their launches. Some of the very best examples are of the shuttle launches done with 16mm & 35mm cameras. Here's a link to Parts 1 & 2 (I think there are six parts total) of a launch from a few years back, before the days of Epic. Things don't get interesting until about 2:30ish of Part 1, at which point the photography combined with the commentary is pretty spectacular.

I'd love to see similar closeups at HFR with Epic HDRx or Dragon!

Maybe I can take a Red to the Red planet in a decade's time from now.... :D

Cheers from Tokyo (for now!),

Paul :)

Hehe, Paul,

maybe you can get a sponsoring from Jim then and hiss a RED flag somewhere, up there... ;-)

But getting spare parts may become expensive. What does DHL, Fedex or UPS charge for a shipment to Mars?

Cheers,
Axel

How was that space camp experience? A friend talks about wanting to do it with his son all the time...

As someone that worked two Summers delivering newspapers and scooping ice cream just so that I could afford to spend 8-days at Space Camp, this is un-freaking-believably cool and I am proud to be RED.

Try send them with virgin.

I'm actually doing very similar work with our RED Epics and rocket launches. The problem we have run in to is that we desire the use of the motion mount as we have a lot of vibe to deal with. However HDRx doesn't work with the motion mount (at least not on our firmware and I have not seen notes that it does in future firmware). Any chance there is an update on when/if this feature may be enabled for the motion mount?

A HUGE feature request for us as well would be the ability to remotely pull the media off the RED MAG via the Ethernet port. Having someone climb up a 20 story lightning tower so they can grab a RED MAG to offload footage is not very... efficient.

Sounds like a 4k broadcast module might be in your future.
