  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Naming Your Epic / Scarlet

...

Still, I want to call mine "O'Hara".

See, this is where the whole naming system breaks down... when a thousand people want the same name! (I think you are one of several who has already "reserved" this name. Arguably, the most obvious one.) Won't it be fun trading emails to sort this one out. :crying:

Huckster
Sideshow
Charlatan
QUACK

Are all now, as of this post, mine.

Such a negative Nelly!

The obvious choice is "Johansson".

Obviously, this would not be worked out with e-mails back and forth.

It could very easily be worked out like a screen name or password database. If the name is already chosen ... you don't get it. Then your get to choose another name. This type of system would give seniority to early adopters.

I also think it is safe to say that anyone wanting to name their camera would have several back-up ideas. There is also the Roman numeral II ... if absolutely needed.

Since many people ... like yourself ... don't want this option, there would be more names to choose from for the rest of us.

Maybe RED could hire the California DMV to administer the whole program since it's a lot like vanity license plates. And the logistics of management would only be just a little less. :out:

How about a firmware update so the camera addresses you personally when it boots up. "Good morning (or evening - the camera will know) Dave, what would you like to shoot today?" or

"Dave, I sense some blown out highlights, how about an ND 6 ?"

or ultimately,

"I'm sorry Dave, that shot is so bad I'm taking over now."

even better - on power off,

"Thanks, Dave, you're the best cinematographer I ever worked with." as you place the camera on the pillow beside you.

How much? I'll take it...

OK.
Now that's the spirit!

You guys are funny... I'm starting to see a way to pay for that new laser engraver I've had my eye on.

Seriously though, many good machine shops or fabricators will have the ability to laser etch a name to the side of the camera. It looks as if it can be easily done to a removable panel -- as was the case with the RED One's CF module cover. Didn't we have this exact same thread around the time the RED One started shipping?

Probably Jeff,

I love the MYSTERIUM X engraving on the CF.

Blame me and Ketch (the italians) always worried about style.

But then, there really wouldn't be any benefit of doing that without having a uniform way of placement and also the database... :)

who knows maybe the "custom laser engraved camera market" will take off like the custom paintball marker market.

These companies do a little more then just names but would probably be the safest bet if you wanted custom work done on a small camera.

Or the pet rock!

When I was in 6th grade in the midwest, the hot item was to have an ID bracelet engraved with your name - so you could give it to the girl you wanted to go steady with. Is this where we are going with engraved Scarlets? :001_rolleyes:

Can I reserve the Scarlet name "Snipe"?
