  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Scarlet Upgrade Program

Is there anyone on The Planet Earth who has seen moving frames of Dragon footage yet? Anyone who could somehow characterize the aesthetic of the color, the "smoothness", if you get where I am coming from. I like my puffed rice cereal crispy, not my footage. ;-)

Scarlet to Epic X.

I would like to know that as well. I do not see a direct need to delay such a trade-in to July or even later, other than an overwhelming torrent of orders. Half of the process is certainly the delivery duration of a new Epic-X, and the other half the speed of the trade-in procedure.

My interest in this is more based on my idea to fine-tune the availability with my funds. ...and I guess my budget is slower than RED is delivering here. ;o) So I have to be careful.

I maybe missing something, but I think that's the link you need? When I sign in it tells me that my camera is eligible.

Has this been answered before, l have the RED Armor for my Scarlet with 18 months left on it, if l up grade to an Epic will this be transferred across to the Epic,
It still has about $ 1200 of value on it.

You can find the answer at RED Camera Dragon FAQs. http://www.red.com/faqs/dragon/scarlet
"IF I HAVE AN EXISTING ORIGINAL OR RED ARMOR WARRANTY FOR A SCARLET I AM UPGRADING TO SCARLET DRAGON, WILL THE BALANCE OF MY WARRANTY CARRY OVER TO MY UPGRADED BRAIN?

Yes, any remaining balance of your SCARLET BRAIN original warranty will carry over. If you purchased SCARLET RED ARMOR extended warranty coverage, any remaining balance will be transferred to your SCARLET DRAGON BRAIN at no additional charge.

IF I HAVE AN EXISTING ORIGINAL OR RED ARMOR WARRANTY FOR A SCARLET AND I AM TRADING IN FOR EPIC-X M-X OR DRAGON, WILL THE BALANCE OF MY WARRANTY CARRY OVER TO MY TRADED IN BRAIN?

Parts and labor of the new EPIC-X M-X or EPIC-X DRAGON brain you receive will be warranted for a period of one year. Remaining balance of your SCARLET BRAIN original warranty will not carry over. If you purchased SCARLET RED ARMOR extended warranty coverage, any remaining balance will be transferred to your EPIC M-X or EPIC DRAGON BRAIN at no additional charge."

SCARLET to EPIC-X M-X program timing...

Now that we are back from NAB and have some pre-orders to give us an idea on numbers, we can sit and fine tune all of the trade-in/upgrade program details. I would expect us to have a clearer picture, one we feel is at a point for us to communicate publicly, next week. I will post when ready.

Can you state that the scarlet to epic mx will be first? (Crossing fingers)

Haha, give us a few days to exhale and regroup to make sure we are on the same page within RED as far as timing. Remember, the big resource drain on a trade-in program is getting in the SCARLET, evaluating, communication with customer, etc. So even though we are shipping EPIC-X M-X right now, it is the front end of the process we have to sync up on timing.

Hey Justin,

That is very nice of you. Mind you when I tell you that I knew this link? The question for me was more the timing: so the order arrives when at the same time when the budget is there as well. My concern is here that I order too early or too late.
Anyway, I certainly appreciate your friendly gesture!

Have a great day

Sassi

I think the answer will be available soon, if I take the post from Brent@RED. Thanks Brent

I will probably going on this path (scarlet to epic X) but i want to know what the scarlet dragon will be first, so let us sometime to decide what upgrade to choose please :)

Awesome! Take your time. But not too much... Hahaha

Hey Brent,

Orange County is not that far from L.A., is there a chance to come over in, e.g., June and deliver the camera in the morning, and pick the new one up after a few hours? That would be my ideal scenario. :o) Perhaps the re-source drain is smaller, if the camera in question is inside of the warranty-time?

I think everyone from the NAB-RED team will enjoy the weekend now (having worked several years at NAB (MAXON) I know how this drains the energy. Having said that, I do not expect a fast answer on that.

Have a good one
Sassi

All I want to know is if the process starts in July or starts ASAP. That is more of a policy question than a speed question. When does the upgrade process begin? It's frustrating because by the time you actually tell us when it's going to begin my upgrade may have gotten pushed back so far in line that it'll start in August for instance instead of June. I know you want to regroup etc... but it's really frustrating to be asked to make a $10k-$20k decision ASAP without knowing what we're choosing and having no way to later change it or face months of delays on our order because we're at the back of the line. Every day we wait for clarity is another day of orders ahead of ours. Alternately please let us order now and then give our bomb rep the option to make a tweak in a week or two with the current timecode.

SCARLET HAS JUST GONE EPIC

RED your fantastic, l know of no other company that looks after its customers so well.

If all other companies where like RED the world would be a better place.

Thanks Sassi, apologies for my lack of understanding!

Warranty or no warranty, the effort to eval is the same. A voided warranty will come across our QC benches at some point : )

But, yes, less time if under warranty because the customer communication to collect repair funds (if needed) is moot. And, yes, dropping off saves you some transit time.

A few hours? Nope, that is pretty aggressive. There are going to be other people in line as well. Hence, the estimated timeframe of 7-10 business days is what it is. By dropping off, not going to shave days and days of of that.

Sweet- If you see a guy camping outside of RED HQ, don't worry, its just me and my Scarlet waiting to be first in line for the upgrade.... I ordered within 45 seconds of the webpage going live, so I am pretty much at the front anyways!

No one is forcing you to make a decision ASAP. When you feel you have the info you need to make it, then make it.

Again, a cross-departmental meeting will be held early next week for use to see the lay of the land in regards to pre-orders and then we can make a call when we will be ready to start accepting SCARLET M-X in for EPIC-X M-X trade ins.

There is a reason other companies don't do these things. One, they rather you buy a new camera then upgrade/trade-in. Two, programs like this are a huge time and resource commitment from the manufacturer. I hope you appreciate the thought and time that goes into these special programs for our customers. Asking us to rush a decision and telling us how frustrated you are makes it seem like you don't.

Hey Brent,

Not knowing the procedure, I'm sorry that the idea sounded aggressively. Not my intention. Dropping-off and picking up is apart from each other, got it.
I had as well not in mind to show up without an appointment, and expect everyone to leave other people's order alone, not at all.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Enjoy your well deserved weekend
