  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

It would take weeks if not months (thanks to customs). True, i draw the worst case scenario, but i have some experiences. We will see how it works out, but maybe i'll just order a second plate, with my Fan-upgrade, to make things easy and faster.

I just want to make clear, this offer for a free mod is beyond great and what maybe makes it less practicable for non-US-customers has absolutely nothing to do with RED.
 
I saw Ted yesterday at Red Studios and forgot to ask him about this one...I expect we will get this upgrade done at the same time as Dragon.

On a separate note I was told RedRay would be shipping any day now. There were a bunch of them sitting around the studio where we screened all the trailers -I asked Ted if I could have one as a parting gift but he said we should see ours very soon.

Fans start shipping tomorrow. Lots of options to send your plates in to get modified... and you can do it slow mo if you want. We would love to pay your shipping.. but we are already giving you the modification for free to avoid obsolesce. There will be new top plate released at the same time that have some extra efficiencies surrounding the fan.
 
Awesome! I have stripped the hell out of several useful threaded holes in my top plate. Easier to replace, then no time without a top plate anyway.

Thank you again for this upgrade Jarred and Red in general... Will make the camera so much more documentary friendly.
 
Jarred I love your beast parked on the lot...i thought -was that in Fast & Furious 6? I've read about your wheels but to see it first-hand yesterday was impressive!
 
Just remember that the new fans require a new software build ( obviously ) to work.

So hopefully expect a new build next week? That would be for both the top and bottom to work? Or could the bottom work on the current build?

Jarred you may want to add some understanding to that post. Like "New software is needed for the fans to run batter Etc" Or will the New fans not work @ all without new software?
 
If you install the fans without a new build they just run at full tilt ( kinda like our old fans used to ) We now use pretty complicated algorithms for fan control and the new build uses those to constantly monitor fan speed and temperature and modulate front vs. top as needed.

When will the new Epic and/or Dragon pieces ship with the fans installed. Would seem that the Dragons are going to ship with them...

If we buy a new fan now, then upgrade our Scarlet to Epic later, do we keep our fan?

If we buy an Dragon-M, does it come with the new fan?

(You can tell my upgrade dreams are swinging all over the park here)

I think I just got the Fedex TRK for the kit, unless is the new bad ass low profile EVF mount... ;)
 
Michael I don't think we'll know for sure until the new fan is out in the wild. We can probably assume it won't work with several if not all 3rd party plates. Really it ain't Red's responsibility to test it with the 3rd party gear--when Apple makes a new phone, the casemakers make a new case. That's the price of making all your money off someone else's product chain.

Hopefully, as soon as possible, all the third party folks will buy a fan.

Then test with their gear.

Then email all of their customers something like IT WORKS! or SORRY IT DOESN'T WORK.

Red is kind enough to receive your old top plate and re-machine it for you! Curious if others will offer such service.
