  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Dragon Sensor Upgrade Program begins

@RED,

[Don't think this has been answered yet - and so apologies if i've missed this in the thread somewhere]

Do you anticipate that the Dragon upgrade will be 'performable' by Red Europe (eg UK)?

If so -> I would like to get in the Euro line (when this service becomes available).
If not -> I will 'get in line' to send to the States.

Thanks,
AJ

I think in FAQs?

Brent, Jarred can you clarify for me:

Is the M / early adopter preorder queue separate from the X preorder queue in terms of priority, (ie all on that list complete first?)

...or was it just a few days of head start on getting in line? Sorry if this has been covered but sometimes I can't see the wood for the trees :)

EPIC-M and early adopters priority was them being able to place orders on Monday while remaining EPIC-X was today.

"Ready to send in for upgrade" will be based off of date/time stamp.

Is this just a pre-order that saves us an spot in the line where we can decide not to take it when we are ask to send our camera in or is this an confirmed purchase?

+1, I got the upgrade e-mail today and I have the same question.

I was under the impression that we could "place an order" for Dragon today without having to put any $ down until it was time to have the upgrade done. When I just went in to reserve my spot in line, it appears that we are required to pay the entire amount right now. Is that correct or did I mess something up?

thanks...

Pre-order is getting a spot in line. For upgrade, you will be notified to pay when you are up in line. New orders, just like everything else these days, pay when ready to ship.

I think you will be charged when your upgrade is ready for delivery....anyone correct me if I am wrong...

Thanks

Sorry, trying to make it clear that you pay when upgrade is going to be done on your camera. Not now. This is a pre-order to lock your place in line by executing your serial number. No money changes hands until ready for upgrade.

If you don't want it when number is up, your serial number is still executed and cannot be used for any other special offers like this.

But can you delay sending it in if you can't let it go at the moment?

This is a good question. If we are in the middle of production and we get the notification to send it in, do we have the option to hold off for a period of time?

Thank you.

What are the limits on delaying the upgrade once it comes up? It would just really suck to lose the chance to upgrade due to unforseen timing issues.

+1, thanks for answering that Brent!

Brent, if you're still around and answering questions, I hope you can shed a little light on the Red Armor/warranty element of the upgrade.

I was just looking over the Scarlet section info in the Dragon FAQ's (http://www.red.com/faqs/dragon/scarlet), and it touches on Scarlet owners' Red Armor coverage remaining intact...even moving over to an Epic-X if they choose that upgrade path. How is it that the same consideration isn't given to Epic owners who have purchased Red Armor and have years remaining on it? I know it mentions that certain parts of our Epics would remain covered under warranty, but the sensor and all parts associated with the upgrade only getting a 90-day warranty is a disconcerting proposition, especially without knowing how much is actually getting switched out as part of the upgrade.

I've always felt that Red was a very fair company that stands behind its products and its customers, so this division in coverage between Scarlet and Epic owners feels odd. I wouldn't say that Epic owners are necessarily more dedicated to the company and mission of Red, but many do represent the original supporters and believers in Jim's vision and all that has followed. Furthermore, the Epic (and now the Dragon) represents Red's dedication to designing and manufacturing professional cinema tools, which doesn't seem to be reflected in the Epic Dragon warranty wording found in the FAQ's. I would have already secured my spot on the upgrade list, footage unseen, were it not for this one point of warranty policy, and I have been hoping that this is something that could be clarified, or even re-considered.

Thanks in advance for your input...wish I could have seen you all at the show. I can only imagine the ride you've been on, hope you'll all have a moment to relax a minute, catch your breath and re-focus for the months ahead.

Best,
Clint

PS: Regardless of what I've mentioned above, I want to congratulate you and all your hard working colleagues on the accomplishment that I'm sure the Dragon will be. You guys have never really stopped pushing the envelope, and I want to re-iterate that your hard work is not for nothing!
