  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Dragon Sensor Upgrade Program begins

Is there any special reason there are no video clips to view???
It just seems it'a always a pig in a poke!

I'm sorry but footage should always be released BEFORE sales! OH, and before spending money as well.......

No money's changing hands yet, we're just getting in line - and nobody's forcing you to do so.

Red have posted dynamic range charts, many detailed technical specs, as well as making a number of qualitative promises about the upgraded camera. This is good enough to get me standing in line.

If one were to pay for and receive the upgrade and find that it demonstrably fell short of the promises in any area there would certainly be a stink - but one that your rights as a consumer protect you from.

Even to a sceptical thinker, and notwithstanding Red's exceptional attitude to its customers, logic dictates that this can't end badly for the user.

If the pig in the poke is perfect, the place in line was worth grabbing. If its lame, Red will be the ones in hot water, not Joe consumer. Multiply logic by belief and you have lots of pre-orders.

Guys come on! It's been few days, any footage yet? I would love to see its DR!
With the previous mentions about color science, I believe they're still working on images and are waiting until it's finished before sharing with the world. I wouldn't be surprised if the Dragon'ized Epics we watched getting assembled on the show floor are even being held from re-shipping until color gets finished.

That's all good things to me. If they're waiting off this long to prove they've got color locked down right, that means they know they've got it perfect in every other regard. Otherwise, they would have already dropped what was finished just to keep things tied over.

I agree but silence is kinda wierd. Even some word would be nice: "You'll have to wait, footage is in post", "We are refining color science, no footage 'till its done" but all we see is absolutely stunning essembly line (seriously, real time laser engraving blew my mind away). And that was 2 days ago. By now I expected to see few hundreds of happy Dragon owners destroying Vimeo.

OK.. HDRX stays. That was easy. Thanks guys... some good ideas here...

THANK YOU!! :) That makes me happy. It's a totally unique feature of the RED camera that I don't think any of the others will ever implement. And even though most don't ever use it or will need it, it's one of the coolest features of the camera. It has a little bit of the wow factor in it that people didn't think was possible before RED. Along with the image averaging and adding features it is also definitively the best ever camera for timelapse. :) I used the averaging feature on a stop motion/timelapse spot and it's the cleanest image I've ever seen.

I think they are tweaking the settings still for the colors. These images beating competing sensors is their goal. I am sure they don't want to rush out a non release build, and they need to avoid bugs. I am ready to wait and enjoy the ride, I don't know about you guys. I hope that when the link goes live tomorrow for Scarlet owners, there still isn't a sample up, and I will still order it that moment. I have that much confidence in the Red team and JJ

Anyone else want to chime in to save HDRx in the Dragon before we kill it?

Oh, crap. Just saw this. Please do NOT kill HDRx! The X track is part of my secret sauce for blur reduction, tracking/ matching and other processes and FX that can benefit from the faster exposure frame.

oh, good. You were making me nervous for a minute there. :)

HDRx staying is great news, thanks for listening Red Team!
