  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Dragon Sensor Upgrade Program begins

Sent a message to my rep as well. NEEEEED it

I'm super excited...Wider Leica M lenses? YES PLEASE. 2000 ISO...HECK YEAH! With 19MP and 100fps...this is just insanely awesome in that same form factor...

Warranty on Dragon sensor and upgraded parts is 90-days...not covered under Red Armor for Epic owners :( I really wish this wasn't the case!

Also saw something that mentioned the Dragon sensor and upgraded parts will be included for Scarlet owners (said it's factored into the upgrade price for them)...but now I can't seem to find where I read that...perhaps it's one of many things that are subject to change.

Red Europe just answered. They'll 'look into it first thing in the morning'. Not happy.

Call the RED in the states and get any Bomb Squad Rep to help you. The number is (949)206.7900. I hope this helps, I understand your frustration.

Talked to Bomb Squad Rep. They said today they are only upgrading Epic M and "early adopters" who ordered before August (goes up to red one #2200 or something). I am Red One #2880 and Epic-X #560, so apparently I can't order the Dragon upgrade until Thursday.

I'll try that, thanks.

In the meantime, can anyone PM me Jen's email at Red? She seems to be fixing that for quite some people.

Based on Dragon/Epic brain and Epic upgrade pricing, this means the upgrade for Scarlet to Dragon will be no more than $21K. Realistically it will be $18.5K for a non BT Scarlet. Maybe less, but probably not by much.

I'm hoping the Scarlet to Epic-X upgrade is only offered to non-BT Scarlet owners and hits around $5-6K since it is essentially an ASIC swap and not a sensor + ASIC

--Edit--
Scarlet to Epic X costs $9.5K, so the price for a new Epic X ASIC board = price a Dragon sensor

I wonder if they would sell all the BT Epic X ASICs for $3-4K and execute them from the Dragon upgrade program or if this is Red's way of urging all of us to hop on the Dragon train and leave MX in the dust.

Any Scarlet update please?

Here you go:

2 Simple Options.

#1. Upgrade your Scarlet to Full Epic-X (including new black body) - $9500. After that.. you can upgrade your Epic-X to Full Epic Dragon through the normal Epic-X to Dragon process.

#2. Upgrade your Scarlet to Scarlet Dragon - $9500 ( keep your grey body ) Get all the dynamic range and new color science of the Dragon with a max framerate of 5K 60fps. Full specs to come soon.

Pre-orders begin this Thursday. Upgrades begin July.

If you are having issues where you are an early adopter of RED with an EPIC (ie, placed a deposit on a RED ONE before Aug 31, 2007 that you took delivery of), you should be able to log in to upgrade. I believe this is serial number RED ONE 2261 or before?

All EPIC-M owners should be able to pre-order for upgrade today.

If above applies to you and you cannot place pre-order, email / call your rep. If non-US, you can call US BOMBSQUAD, 949.206.7900.

We have our web team looking at the handful of cases we have been contacted with on this issue to see root cause....
