  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB... Tropicana

hmmmm..... now tempted to drive out there just for that day from long beach:yesnod:

I've done it a few years George. Just don't drink too much and there's no problem :001_tongue:

Now I just stay the night! :thumbup1:

I was just in LA and had a nice visit with Ted and Jarred and I can't say what I saw but it def will be the best NAB since 2006 as Mark suggested.

wtf?? dude, you cant just drive by dropping post bombs like that :-):yikes:

I wonder how many features will be working, frame rates... 5k 23.9 is all they need to get everyone excited for now, but I think they'll have a few more.

Because you can burn a day traveling during the weekend. And since the RED event is in the evening you can't really fly out that day.

Depending on where you are coming from, you could fly in Wednesday morning, spend some time at the event, and still catch a flight that night and be home for the 11 o'clock news. Just throwing that out there as a suggestion....

Well, once they get high fps the rest should be easy and fast... I mean, they already know the structure of the code or whatever and they have been thinking about the engine ASIC for ever now, so, they should be on top of it all, I suppose. It would be very interesting to see some BTS footage one day.

If everything was working we would be shipping... :-)

Just so no one misses this, I'm going to interrupt this thread for a moment. :-)

To make sure we don't exceed capacity of the hotel, they have asked me to give a hard RSVP count. I hate to change policy midstream but it helps on a ton of levels if we have an accurate count - venue capacity, food, drinks (do we really want to run out of beer???), registration, etc. So, to keep everyone happy (esp the fire marshall), I have to ask that you register for the event. If you have guests, register them, too. And I have to ask that you do it before Monday, Apr 5. Please pass the word to other REDUSERs so everyone who wants to get in can do so. If we are getting close to capacity, I will post again here.

Thanks, guys. We want to make this event amazing. It would suck if we got shut down before it even got started.

Okay guys, carry on. :-)

I second the request for a video of the demo to be posted. Cheers.

Shot on Red MX, pretty please!!!

For those of us who couldn't afford the time off and/or travel.

Steve - just to be 100% clear - if we have already registered here, then we are good? Right?

Thanks! Flights are booked and working on hotel. Yippee.

Yes, that is correct. This only applies to those who have not registered, and are perhaps waiting until last minute to make decision on going to NAB.

Jim hinted yesterday on cinematography.com that the "Blackie" is already operating at 100fps @5k:

Tom... we are proud of EPIC but need to deliver it. Images from "Blackie" (1st working prototype) will be shown soon. It is measured 4K (from 5K Bayer), 100fps and 13.5 stops DR (according to the Arri test setup). 15 stops of DR won't happen until the next sensor due late this year.

Out of curiosity Steve, How many attended the first Red gathering in 08?
I'm guessing less than 200. Just wondering.

It seemed like a few hundred, but it's possible there were less. Seems like such a small event thinking back on it. Remember the state of the art projection? Ketch hiding the Tiramisu, the Great Raffle Conspiracy, Mike Seymour with a great opening act, getting to know some of the early crowd of Redusers. It was a great time. I think this year's show will be memorable too.

I was at the first meeting in 2008 and it was a nice event and a very small gathering. missed last year but will be there this year and will prob be shocked by the difference between the 2.

Especially if/when

...with 3000 or so people coming...

Jim

happens.
