  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - REDLINK DEVELOPMENT KIT

Really cool, and i'm surprised by the price-tag.
Now bring on the apps and killer-devices.

One question, does the SDK allow something like a really smooth follow focus for still lenses with integrated motors? Something like a REDMOTE Pro? ;)
And one thing that bugs me, just a little, the DSMC-port isn't passed through, so there is no way to use it with the REDVOLT XL module.

Wireless, continuous Timecode jamming...?

I presume Cioni had early access to the developer kit too? He teased that he had something related coming... ;-)

NEVER MIND, just checked up foolcolor website and found the answer.

I'm probably being dim witted here, but how does this intergrate into cam with a V Mount configuration? Love to know more. Thanks!

Amazing - finally third party controllable!

Hopefully the wi-fi is more consistently reliable with every unit than the Redmotes, and with plenty of range!

And also can be controlled by hard wired serial/ethernet - even better.

It doesn't. BUT ... obviously if RED was to make a new module ... like a proper, correctly designed re-boot of the Pro IO - they would be able to put this WiFi board into it. And that is what I am cheerleading :)

Clearly is an initial low cost option to kick start that fact that The Internet of Things has now come to this camera - and this initial WIFI product enables 3rd Parties to start creating applications right now that will work on anything else that RED does in the future that they stick the board into. It's an open protocol that I am sure will extend into RED future products.

I have wanted this for so very long. It is going to be exciting to see what all the mad scientists out there do with the dev kit.

Wait until you see the Foolcontrol app in action. It's insane. http://foolcolor.net/

There is a nice way you can use batteries and still use this if you put a battery plate on rods.

Gimbal, crane, Steadicam should all enjoy this!

although a wireless switchblade module might be even cooler as a non-SDK product.

will read the switchblade description closer...

Combining this with Kessler CineDrive - awesome for our stopmotion stuff!!!!
but yeah am confused about power solutions...

my style of shooting is with XLmodule or Quick plate... smaller the better when you have to hike up the mountain,...

I know what I'll be doing in my spare time. All I need now are a set of design requirements for a windows app (ahem!).

So can sombody explain... I though the camera had Wifi inside allready, no? I mean we seen the RED ipad app running long ago even though it has not been for sale.
So what is this thing doing more exactly, is it an upgrade to the current / old WiFi antenna thats ontop of the camera body, or what is actually inside this little redmote click on kind of box?
To me red could do the same without this unit, just allow 3rd parties to an SDK, no?

Then we could still use that new XL module.
