  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - RED 4K BROADCAST MODULE

That's awesome! If the outputs can be cloned or independently controlled [1080p x 4], this'll be equally huge in the cinema market. We're always looking for more BNC ports... and easily accessible ones at that!

There are working Broadcast modules in a couple booths at the show.. apart from ours the most notable is the Vizrt booth right next to us doing some pretty cool real time 4K comps via the realtime 4k output.

Any chance some level of Unsharp Mask can eventually get baked into Dragon looks when necessary for live broadcast? I realize technology not built into EPIC but would be great to have options.

Yeah, only works with the new boards that come with DRAGON....
Does that also mean Scarlet Dragon, Brent? That would make for a kick-ass little UHD broadcast camera!

Any chance would be able to get different gamma spaces on different SDI ports? ie. Clean REDLogFilm for live grading but have RedGamna4 for the operator and ACs

Amazing... Now no one can Bitch about monitor limitations on Red. You go girl

great! Another Idea for a little brother module: like the new Quick V Mount Plate without cables, with TC port and just 2 HD only Ports of this one, 2 Lemo Power Outs, and of course smaller /slimmer and maybe cheaper.

Will be proxy recorders be able to record Slomo off of this? That would be really interesting as well.

Without developing proprietary protocols and frame rate control along with the proxy module makers, I don't see how. Seems like it would have to record at the desired standard base rate from on-camera playback of the over cranked footage. Pretty much the same as it works now, just this supports 4K.

I'm still hoping for an HDMI 2.0 / 4K over HDMI nugget of info somewhere. As awesome as this module is, much of the new "broadcast" equipment and live switching 4K stuff coming to market is using HDMI rather than multiple-SDI. OTOH, this would go straight into a converter like the AJA Hi5-4K to convert to HDMI. AJA should make a battery-powered converter. Then again, if there was 4K output right from the onboard HDMI port of the camera, that would be perfectly awesome.

This is fantastic! Order placed : )

Was just about to ask this question. This would be a huge plus particularly for network series using LUT based workflows on set. Like it or not Operators and ACs have a huge influence on camera selection in long form dramas. Many simply do not like Redlogfilm on their monitors even when adjusted with more contrast / sat.

That plus a compact Prores 1080/2K/4K recorder module and Dragon could become the camera of choice for the major networks. No matter how unfounded, raw workflow phobia still runs rampant in the network post facilities I've dealt with over the last few years mostly due to the belief that there will be significantly more labour and expense to conform with R3D or ARRIRAW than with log flavoured Prores or DNxHD masters.

Not looking forward to having a Ki Pro Quad stuck to the back of my rigs when requested though...

The ability to monitor 4K on set has been something my clients have been wanting ever since I got my Epic over two years ago. This is great. I do wish there was a more consumer friendly option, like Kilgroe said... to have an HDMI 2.0 4K output was the hope, but I guess we can buy another 3rd party module like the BlackMagic or AJA to convert the 4 SDI feeds into a single HDMI for a consumer grade 4K lcd. Nice work Red.
