  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2012...

I honestly don't expect anything from red at nab. Last year was a circus act with no real news. However, in the interim I did finally get my epic and I'm too busy shooting on it to worry about the next "unicorn" upgrade.
Don't take this the wrong way, Jim , but I'd really like to have a fully working camera with a proper I/o module , a 5k 16:9 format and a full raster output before anything else. The sensor's great, the color science is great ,just fix the stuff that needs fixing before introducing anything else.
Oh and btw the evf needs work as well.
 
HOBBIT?!?!! what, this could be the final reason I need to join y'all in Vegas. Got my own Dragon on the way though, due anyway now. 2012 Year of the Dragon.

Looking forward to all the posts about what you all found at NAB.

There are so many reasons why NAB 2012 will be important to see...

Come to the RED booth. You won't be disappointed...

It was a few years ago at NAB that I first learned about the Scarlet from Ted.
Now I can't wait to see what's next. I'll be there early Monday, maybe a bit hungover,
but I have a feeling what's in that theatre will wake me up completely. :emote_popcorn:
 
well, the fact you are located in the "Post Production/ Display" area according to the NAB map should give us a heads up on what your are focusing on this NAB.. :hurray::thumbsup:

rethink that... 15,000 RED cameras sold in about 4 years (probably less) is huge... unimaginably huge... and larger than i would have ever estimated

Phil, you're a bright guy, and you wrote some pretty good posts (the data sheet for one), this statement isn't your best...
its you're first NAB, the RED booth, as awesome as it may be, is just one among so many interesting and useful booths to see... actually, I never get to see all i want, and always find myself running on the last day to see one more booth and check one more piece of equipment or software. so many medium and small companies from around the world with great innovations to add to the RED camera you use. you should give more than 2% of your time to the rest of the floor(s). RED is great, and just a little part of NAB... but i'm sure you'll find that out for yourself :).

Heh Hector. I was likely being a bit over the top on that %. There's actually a great deal of stuff I want to see at NAB. I've actually seen a few interesting things already as a beta tester/gear tester. But I'm real curious about some of the affordable motion control gear coming down the pipe. That interests me a ton. I hear rumors of some new lenses (not Red) to be displayed on the show floor as well. I heard rumors of some new spherical HDRI tech that I'll have to check out as that's part of what I do, but I doubt it will blow my socks off. There's supposed to be a compact laser scanner I want to take a look at. If that get's sub $60k for a full system I'd be very excited. There's a couple of audio companies I'll be checking out too.

I was merely being excited because Red has told us about a couple things in the works and I'm interested in seeing those things come to life. In this case, likely a very clear and vivid picture :)

So yes, I'm aware of NAB being a huge a event with a ton of companies. Almost as aware of the roulette table I did well at last trip to Vegas at Mandalay Bay :)

affordable moco always sounds scary or limited... and interesting.. :) what company are you referring to?
 
Well, less expensive moco. Kessler's got some interesting stuff in the works and I like the customized interface that they've shown.

I'm keen to see some new monitors too, both for field and color work. I'll use my time wisely :)

Marks Robrets Robotics (makers of Milo) have a basic configuration that's not much more expensive than a basic Scarlet kit (and they make Milo)
i'll check out Kessler's I like what he does.

go see FSI for monitors.
the LM 2461W is unbeatable in its price range.

Sony trying to play catch-up is cute, with their new unspecified "upgrade path to come later" funny but I think the new tattoo I am having sketched shows exactly where my heart is.
 
I really wish I could make it this year. It sounds like it's going to be the best year for Red.
